gives me great pleasure to welcome you all to this joyous :casion that we affectionately call, Jolly Stars Night 2004.
ur college is one of the oldest educational establishments
Sri Lanka. It has produced a number of noteworthy ofessionals and successful business persons. Equally, it as brought forth a number of courageous persons who are repared to serve the community caring very little for their wn safety and welfare. We are proud of all of them. As charitable organization and as past students of this great

institution, we feel that we too should do all we can to help our fellow countrymen.
JHCA UK branch was launched about three years ago with great enthusiasm and expectation from our members. Firstly, we wanted to provide help to our old college to enable it to continue producing the best of men as it has done in the past. In addition, we also wanted to offer help and assistance beyond the walls of our college to those needy people living in extreme conditions in areas affected by the war.
Today, after three years of working with this group of dedicated and enthusiastic members, I am delighted to confirm that our members continue to be as highly committed as they were when we started. We have achieved many of the objects that we set out to do and are continuing to develop and introduce new and innovative ways to help those people.
We are an Approved Charity in Great Britain, which gives us the required seal of respect in our activities. We collect funds from members and non-members and also by conducting charitable events. We regularly offer one-off aids to worthy activities such as our recent funding if the JHC Chess Club. We also offer help on a continuing basis. On-going activities include financing of an educational programme for children who are disabled, orphaned or mentally traumatized who

live in war torn areas. This scheme is a beacon of hope to those needy children. Also, we are financing the education of a number of university students in the Northern Province and in the coming year, we are planning to expand it into the Eastern Province and the Upcountry region. Each month, we ship books collected from various sources to an organization in Vanni who distribute them to various schools and libraries. One over-riding aspect of all our activities is that they are all directed at the most vulnerable people in our community.
We have made a solemn promise that we would continue to do these and many other tasks as long as the need exists and as long as we have the support of our members. I am sure other associations are also doing equal amount of work towards alleviating the suffering of our people in Tamil Eelam. We would continue to encourage them to work with us without rivalry or competition.
We are absolutely certain of one vital point: The need in Tamil Eelam is so great that there is room for all of us.

ஒன்றியம் ஆரம்பித்து 3வது ஆண்டில் காலடி எடுத்து வைத்துள்ளோம். கடந்த இரு வருடங்களாக ) எம்மாலான வகையில் சவால்களுக்கு மத்தியில் பல நல்ல காரியங்களை சாதிக்க முடிந்தது மிகவும் மகிழ்ச்சிக்குரிய விடயம்.
யாழ் இந்து மாணவர்களாக யாழ் இந்து அன்னைக்கு மட்டுமல்லாமல் நாம் பிறந்த மண்ணிற்க்கும் எம்மாலானவகையில் உதவிகளை புரிவது எமது குறிக்கோளாக இருந்து வருகிறது. இதனையே கடந்த வருடங்களாக செயற்படுத்தி வந்துள்ளோம்.

From Our Secretary ............................
Our Jaffna Hindu College Association U.K. enters its 3" successive year since its formation by a group of talented, progressive and promising members from the former J.H.C OBA U.K.
Many would ponder why should there be two Associations in the U.K. serving our Alma Mater; it is purely due to the differences in aspirations and conspicuous objectives. Before we formed this Association we made every endeavour to sort out our differences with the people who have preserved their dominance; but they never gave any heed to any of our suggestions.
Although our main concern is to help and support our past and present students of our college, we are also mindful to give whatever assistance we could provide within our means to the families in "Tamil Eelam' affected by war and natural disaster.

To this end we are happy to inform that due to the untiring efforts of our President and other members we have obtained recognition as an approved Charity despite the fact the U.K. government shows reluctance in approving new applications from newly formed organisations.
Some of the assistance our association has provided towards Our College and the ongoing voluntary work conducted to further the interests and general welfare of the Tamil community in homeland are summarised below:
Kumarasamy Hall was provided with 500 chairs. Prior to this the college students had to sit on the ground to attend to their matters.
17 teachers whose salaries were not paid for 3 months by the college for lack of funds were settled in full by our Association.
An ongoing Educational Scheme was launched for the benefit for the orphaned and disabled children affected by the war.
C> Books collected from well wishers in the U.K were provided to schools and Libraries in the Tamil Ellam.

CX Rs 50000 were donated to the 'JHC Chess Club' in order to help them to release of a souvenir to mark the 10th Annual district level tournament.

Thus within a short period of 2 years of our inauguration, what we have achieved is something which every member can be proud of. There is a lot more to be achieved and our determined committee will be able to do better next year.
On behalf of the committee of the management, I wish to thank all those rendered valuable assistance and also to the well wishers from the old boys from around the globe for our magnificent performance during the past 2 years. We now have a strong foundation and our membership is swiftly growing. We invite every Jaffna Hindu College old boy to become involve with our Association.
We have organised this Dinner Dance with great enthusiasm.
We hope that every one of you will enjoy this evening.

Chess club, Jaffna Hindu College Celebrating 10" Annual district level tournament
The chess club of Jaffna Hindu College is one of the most effectively run student body in the school and is perhaps the only organized chess club operating in schools in the whole of the Jaffna Peninsula. The club's achievements and records indicate that it has been the best performer in the game in the whole of the North east province.
For the past nine years the club has been conducting district level tournaments which attract more than 1000 school chess players from the Jaffna district. This tournament other than the one conducted by the Department of Education is the only district level chess event in Jaffna. The tournament was earlier sponsored by the Lion's Club and then by the Hatton National Bank. The organization of the tournament has won commendation from many chess bodies including the Jaffna chess federation and the Sri Lankan Chess Federation.
The club has been the district champion in chess for the under 15 and under 19 age categories in the department of education held tournaments for the past 11 years other than the one conducted by the club itself. It has been the

North East provincial champion since 2003. (The provincial level competitions were inaugurated in 2003)
From 2001 the club has been partaking in National tournaments. In the National level competition held in 2001 conducted by the Ministry of Education, Mas.S.Srikogulan won a prestigious Board prize becoming the only Tamil student to be awarded the prize. In the competitions held in 2004 our senior team was placed 8th in the island. We are now concentrating in advancing our ranking at the national level and are working out programmes in pursuit of achieving this target.
Many former members and captains of the JHC Chess club have shown their valour at prestigious national and international tournaments. We provide two examples:
S.J. Coomana, who captained the club for the year 1995, started participating in international competitions from 1998. He has been included in the ranking of the International Chess federation. He has also participated in Grand master level competitions.
VTS. Sivothayan, who captained the club for the year 1997, won the National Championship for Chess this year. He is also a member of the National Chess team.
The chess club of Jaffna Hindu College maintains a Chess pool, consisting of 30 members. At present our

general membership stands at 200. We only grant member conducted by the club. This helps us in maintaining the stal that each member of the school team presents a self assess develop his future performance.

Re-Constructed Prayer Hall Block The master plan proposes to accurately document the existing Prayer Hall Block, and then to demolish. A new Prayer Hall Block should be built with re-introduction of the same character of the existing building. The new building shall be located at least 6m setback from KKS road. இலங்கையில் தமிழர்களின் தலையாய கல்லூரிகளில் முதன்மையானது யாழ்ப்பாணம் இந்துக்கல்லூரியாகும். இக்கல்லூரி ஆரம்பிக்கப்படட நாளிலிருந்து இன்று வரை இன, மத, மொழி பேதமின்றி சகல சமூகங்களின் கல்வி முன்னேற்றத்திற்கு அளப்பரிய பங்காற்றி வருவதனை தமிழ் கூறும் நல்லுலகம் மட்டுமல்லாது தேசிய, சர்வதேசமும் நன்கறியும், 1890 ஆம் ஆண்டு ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்ட யாழ் இந்துக்கல்லூரி இன்று வரை சுமார் 30000 மாணவர்களை நன்னிலைக்கு உருவாக்கிய பெருமையைக் கொண்டதுடன் இன்று இவர்களில் பெரும்பாலானோர் நாட்டிலும் சர்வதேசங்களிலும் சீரும் சிறப்புடனும் வாழ்ந்து வருகின்றனர்.

The 20-over game is being described as the “most revolutionary step since the advent of one-day cricket 40 years ago". And it seems the counties are taking it very seriously indeed.
Cricket purists will no doubt hate the crash bang format which is aimed at speeding the game up. But frankly, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) did not too bother about this. It wants to bring a new audience to cricket, namely families and women, and believes Twenty20 cricket is the answer.
So that's how The Twenty20 was once again invented in England.

Parliament in Australia
Youth movements, gatherings, forums anc conferences are fashionable Words in today's world. Some produce results and most refrain to do so. A conference ir a foreign country, that even in Australia may seem ever more fashionable, but the working of the International Youth Parliament and the emphasis and the platform that the organizers gave for the involvement of the participants in post-conference work made the International Youth Parliament truly a marvellous arena from which positive change in societies all around the world have got effected and are to be effected.
The International Youth Parliament (IYP) was a gathering of 300 young leaders from 113 countries. The Parliament secretariat in Sydney received more than 2000 applications from around 160 countries for representation in the parliament. I was one of those six who were selected to represent. Sri Lanka, and I was the only Sri Lankan Tamil to be part of the group which included four other Sinhalese friends and an Estate Tamil. I was one of those few who were awarded a full scholarship to attend the parliament. The application procedure itself was long and demanded a lot of in-depth knowledge and commitment from the applicants.
IYP 2004, which lasted for eight days, was the second

sitting of the Parliament. The first sitting took place in Sydney in the year 2000. The next sitting which is to take place in 2007 will be held in Canada. The whole idea of the Parliament was to facilitate a network of action partners who would implement their action plans, on issues that affect them and their communities. The delegates in their application to the parliament had to submit an action plan that seeks positive social change on issues that affect them and their communities, which they would implement in the next two years (2004-2006) in their role as action partners. These issues were categorized and were titled 'action areas.

These action areas were:
o HIV/AIDS,
Labour and employment; Indigenous rights; Sustainable development and agriculture; Peace building, Human rights; Health; Global youth culture; and
O Education. Most of the delegates' time was spent working in their action area. In this group we discussed and shared our experiences, knowledge and insights that we brought to the issues. We

also developed our core skills of analysis, decision-making and action planning perspectives. In these sessions we also considered how the cross cutting themes relate to their work.
There were joint sittings that took up broader challenging questions such as how can we change the world?', 'who holds the power to do this?', 'who will listen to us and how can we make ourselves heard?. The joint sittings were important in providing a global context to the work that we hoped to do in our home countries. The combination of these joint sittings and the smaller action

area groups meetings ensured that a balance was struck between the need for an in-depth exploration of the specific issues that the we were working in their countries. There was also time for caucus meetings and geo-cultural meetings where delegates discussed specific issues affecting their societies and regions. On the third day of the parliament there was a magnificent cultural extravaganza performed by various artists from France, South Africa, Chile and Brazil. There were also other cultural performances and informal gatherings. As writing in length of the day to day happenings of the parliament would be practically impossible (it would easily make up a 100 page book!!), I will only share at this point the experiences that I really feel that I should share with you. The evening prior to the first day of the parliament there was a ceremony what was called the 'smoking ceremony. We were a bit confused with the name of the ceremony until we were actually present at the ceremony. The ceremony was performed by one of the oldest aborigine leaders in the region. He carried a pot of smoke which was taken around the hall by him so that everybody could inhale the smoke. At the end of this ceremony we were given an explanation by the elderly aboriginal leader himself. The smoking ceremony is a customary practice of the aboriginal people of the land when initiating something new. IYP organizers had incorporated this practice in the agenda so as to give recognition to the practice and in general the lives of these people. This was

evident all through the agenda of the parliament. The person who chaired the formal opening of the Parliament at the Sydney town hall was an aboriginal leader, who in his first words saluted the aboriginal people as the true owners of the land. The Parliament itself was highly critical of the policies adopted by the Australian Government regarding aboriginal people, denying them their rights to a sustainable livelihood. I myself could witness that there was still a perspective among a section of the Australian society, which is reluctant to accept them as belonging to the main stream of Australian life. Yet another issue that came up at the opening ceremony of the parliament was when the New South Wales Premier Bob Rae highlighted environmental issues as the most difficult challenge facing humanity, which was contradicted by a senior aboriginal leader, Patrick Dodson, First Chairperson of the Council for Reconciliation who was acclaimed the champion of indigenous rights in Australia and the world over, by stating that the greatest challenge that humanity faces is from their fellow humans itself, implicitly touching on the state of treatment that aborigines were receiving from the Government.
At one of the joint sittings a lady speaker from India who works with the tribal people in Karnataka, highlighted, citing examples from her own experience, the negative impact that western development oriented programmes were making in the livelihood of the people in the Third world. She stressed upon the importance for creativity in formulating local
solutions to the problems we face. Yet another issue that came across during the course of the parliament was the ill treatment of asylum seekers in the detention camps of the Australian government. Some delegates even had the chance to visit one of these camps and see in reality the suffering of the inmates of these camps. The parliament's communiqué was highly critical of the ignorance of the Australian government in this regard. (Sri Lankan Tamils would be aware of this issue as there is a significant amount of Tamils behind bars in these camps). It was truly evident to me that the politics and the society of a country can be better understood when visiting the country in person.
What I feel that largely immerged from the Action area discussions that we had (I was in the Human rights action area group) was an understanding that, despite our belonging to different cultures, traditions and ways of living, the underlying nature of the challenges and problems that we face have a commonality in them. This we were able to understand with much clarity during our interactions with our friends from Africa. The parliament was an embodiment of the thought that youth cannot be kept at the back row to wait till the time comes. The failure of our preceding generations to solve issues has prompted the youth to take up the job in their hands. The International Youth Parliament was a unique manifesto of this thought.

"... Be prepared...- A lesson f Affine Hind
In my twenty five or so years living in Los Angeles, California, USA, I have often been asked (by my American fiends) about my migration to this foreign land and integration into this culture. I can only attribute the ease with which I adapted to the land and its culture to what I learned at Jaffna Hindu College. My learning was in the classroom and outside the classroom as a Boy Scout.
Some of the finest teachers were at JHC during my elementary and high school days - opening our eyes to a world far and beyond the

confines of the Jaffna peninsula. Specifically the name of late Mr. M. Karthigesu comes to my mind. While he was my English and Math teacher - he taught us about life outside of Jaffna and beyond the shores of Sri Lanka. For instance, many of us - his students experienced a trip to Moscow and back through India right in the classroom - as Mr. Karthigesu narrated his travels over a two week period.
JHC excelled in Academics and was hailed as one of the finest educational institutions in the

country. On the extra curricular arena, soccer, cricket and athletics were popular. Due to the vision and dedication and hard work of some of the teachers, the Boy Scout movement was revived after it had become inactive for a while. Teachers, Messrs. Sivasubramaniam, Thiagarajah, and Muthukumaran took an active roll in the revival of the Boy Scout Movement at JHC and our troop became known as the Fourth Jaffna Scout Troop within the Northern District.
At a personal level, one of the first things I learned was about the "dignity of labor". Annually the Boy Scouts would go into local neighborhoods for a couple of weeks and perform mousehold chores. This was known as "Chip a Job" where the locals who get scouts to help them with their chores would pay a rupee for their efforts. The funds collected would go into the troop budget to help various programs. Shining shoes, sweeping front and back yards, dusting and cleaning were some of the popular chores

we would perform during this period. Janakan, a fellow Scout (who lives in Australia) recalls that one of the most grueling chip a job project was when we were asked to drain a well by the owner of a house in Jaffna Town. Our Troop was awarded the Andrew Caldecott national award for collecting the highest amount during the chip a job week.
We learned about survival, cooking, hiking, map reading, Swimming, cycling, camping and many other character forming and life Saving skills at the Scout Troop. We had to excel in these skills demonstrated by our grasp of the skill and passing a rigorous test and earning a Merit Badge in each category. Each of us was earning these badges towards the highest award a Boy Scout could earn at that time - a coveted Queen Scout award. During my tenure at JHC as a Scout - our troop members ably assisted by our Scout Masters earned the most number of Queen Scout awards. I remember being invited to The Queens House in

the center of Colombo City - the official residence of the then Governor General, William Gopallawa. Receiving the Queen Scout Parchment from the Governor General (a representative of Her Majesty the Queen) was one of the high points in my personal life.
As a scout at JHC, I had the opportunity to meet many visiting troupes on cultural exchange programs. I can recall the Chinese Acrobatic team performing at the open air theater in Jaffna Town - where as Scouts we had the privilege of performing crowd control, first aid duties - and thus were at the forefront of the performing arena On another instance, Brigham's Young University (BYU) performing arts troupe from Utah, USA was on a cultural tour of Sri Lanka and came to JHC for a performance. When we scouts helped in lifting a piano weighing over a thousand pounds on to the stage, the BYU team leader complemented the JHC scouts as "... The best piano movers in the world...". Our exposure to these cultural

exchange troupes gave us an opportunity to explore our own talents as performing artists. "Dr. Kill" - a story of a surgeon with short term memory loss was a hit - whenever it was performed at campfire events or as a skit at School theater evenings.
Under the able leadership of our scout masters our skill levels in Scouting related craftsmanship grew to a very high level. Annually a Rally was held at the Jaffna Old Park where all the Jaffna District scout troops would meet to camp out and display and demonstrate their craftsmanship. Among my fellow scouts there was so much of talent and imagination proving that ".. You can do anything you put your mind to...". Sivapathasundaram was our troop leader, a gentle but yet task oriented skipper. Sadchathheswaran (late) was fondly called the monkey from Maskeliya - for the skillful maneuvering of giant oak trees at old park where tree huts were built at hundred feet above the ground. That’s not all

- two such tree huts were connected by a rope bridge - which made you dizzy when you crossed from one hut to the other. We went on to win the Rotary Shield - for the best overall Scout Troop in the Jaffna District. Having won the Rotary Shield a few years in a row, we set our minds on the most coveted Island Merit Flag - an award for the Best Scout Troop in the whole nation. Our Scout masters channeled our enthusiasm and our competitive spirit and hard work finally paid off. Yes we finally won the Island Merit Flag. Not once - but four years in a row.
Scouting helped us to open our eyes and our minds to a world far beyond the borders of the neighborhood we grew in. During my tenure as a JHC scout, the scout masters saw the need for our exposure to an overseas Scout Jamboree and with the help of the JHC Old Boys Association funded a contingent of JHC Scouts to attend the All India Jamboree. A team of five scouts from our troop attended this Jamboree forming the largest

contingent to attend from Sri Lanka.
The Scout Motto is: Be Prepared. This simple but meaningful message is constantly drilled in every aspect of a scout's training. I personally experienced and was enriched by this training at JHC scouting. The dedicated scout masters contributed in no small measure towards this training and character molding of each of us JHC Scouts. The Scout motto and what I learned as a JHC Scout has become the guiding light in my personal life. I cherish the memories of the JHC scouting days. As the old saying goes "... Once a Scout. Always a Scout..."

Diaspora comes from the Greek word 'disappearing to mean disperse or scatter. Diaspora is the dispersal or the scattering of persons with common identity such as culture and language in different directions. Diaspora transcends all its variations. The diaspora maintain and nurture their civilisational and cultural distinctiveness and its aspirations to link their country of origin with the diaspora world-wide, making it a global unity with a global identity. The dispersal of persons and communities is an age-old happening but the phrase Diaspora' is of current usage. The Jewish, Indian and Chinese Diasporas are some of the vibrant ones with a global presence. This scattering which started with trade in the age-old days changed into contract and indentured labour migrations during the early colonial days, especially after the abolition of slavery in 1834. Later, it was the professionals in Search of greener pastures and finally refugees and asylum seekers due to political and Social pressures in different countries. This phenomenon which continued over centuries on a small scale has of late resulted in mass migration with a common identity on a global level.
The dispersal of Tamils around the globe is not of recent origin and at the moment there are seventy million of them spread in over fifty countries of the world. The Tamil diaspora

is a growing togetherness of more than seventy million people living in many lands and across distant seas, many thousands as refugees and asylum seekers. It is a togetherness rooted in an ancient heritage, a rich language and literature, and a vibrant culture. But it is a togetherness which is not simply a function of the past. It is a growing togetherness consolidated by struggle and Suffering and, given purpose and direction by the aspirations of a people for the future - a future where they and their children and their childrens' children may live in equality and freedom in an emerging one world.
Their passion for and the love of their language and culture which has a cherished heritage is the one that binds the Tamil diaspora world wide and their coherence and unity is fast growing to be recognized as an international force. According to Father Heras “Tamil is the oldest of the present languages.” Tamil, one of the powerful Dravidian languages is perhaps the only example of an ancient language which has survived as a spoken language for more than 2500 years with its basic structure almost unchanged. The name Tamil is itself unique meaning 'sweetness' and "coolness. Language and culture are two facets of the same identity, and language is a major cultural element. Culture is everything which is Socially learned and shared by members of a society; it is

an organized system of behaviour and said to be normative because it defines standards of conduct. According to Edward Burnett Tylor an Anthropologist "it is that complex whole which includes knowledge, belief, art, morals, customs and any other capabilities acquired by man as a member of a society.
Isolated diaspora communities often preserve their cultural heritage much more than their brethren in their homeland. “Jaffna Tamils preserve a dialect of Tamil that is in many respects closer to classical Tamil' So Says Patrick Harrigan in the April 200 souvenir issue of the Mauritius International Murugan conference. Each Tamil diaspora community has had to wage its own unique struggle over generations to achieve economic prosperity while yet preserving its Tamil identity and ancestral traditions. Each has its own stories of how they overcame obstacles peculiar to its adopted homeland. Despite their relative isolation from their homeland they have preserved and nurtured Hindu religious traditions such as Kavadi and other cultural elements to posterity.
Today, the digital revolution is not only accelerating the process of globalization but also strengthening the bonds of the diaspora forging a new cultural, economic and political togetherness of a people and deep rooted kinship ties and finding fresh avenues for expression. To quote Piet Baker in “Remembering Roots” (1999) “Internet inade it possible for

members of diasporic groups to communicate regardless of time and distance. Their homeland, their national identity, and the ethnic, social, cultural and political meanings of this identity are the most covered topics in these online meeting places.
The dual orientation towards both the country of origin and the country of resettlement is not as contradictory and paradoxical as it seems in fact, some people with homes in two countries are showing an amazing capacity to maintain dual identities with strong cultural ties and contributions to both places.
The early settlement patterns of the Tamils could be traced to the sugar cane plantations of Mauritius, Reunion in the Indian Ocean; Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean; Guyana and Suriname in South America; plantations in South Africa, Rubber estates and the Railways in the Federated Malay States — FMS – (Malaysia); Coffee and Tea estates in Ceylon (Sri Lanka); and to coal mines of New Caledonia off Australia in the Pacific Ocean. The Manimekalai cult and the Perumpannan Kovil in Indonesia, the Thiruvempavai festival in Thailand, Karraikalamman Kovil in Kampuchea and the Sivalinga worship among the Mayars of Mexico are valid traces of early Tamil settlements far and wide in the world.

30,000 are some of the developed countries where the Tamil diaspora is well settled, having gone on voluntary migration from Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka. It is also estimated that there are more than 250,000 Tamils from Sri Lanka which comprises voluntary migrants and refugees/asylum seekers. Their sense of belonging and togetherness has resulted in the flowering of multi-faceted cultural, religious and media growth to such an extent to excel these activities in the lands of their origin. It is estimated that as base habitation India has almost 61,000,000 and Sri Lanka has 5,000,000 Tamils. Tamils in South East Asia
ANDAMAN AND NCOBAR ISLANDS has over 40,000 Tamils, the second largest ethnic group. INDONESIA had 50,000 Tamils at a point of time and they were taken there by the Dutch colonial masters in the 1830s. Many returned in the 1940s. About 2,000 to 10,000 remained in Northern Sumatra.
SINGAPORE has about 200,000 Tamils and constitute third main cultural group. Tamil as a mother tongue for Tamil children is taught from primary to the pre-University level and 18,000 learn Tamil from the kindergarten to the Junior college level. MALAYSIA has 1,060,000 Tamil populations starting mainly from 1901 when it was called Federated Malay States (FMS). MYANMAR (BURMA) had a Tamil population of 200,000 at one time but since the end of the Second World War the

REUNION is an Indian Ocean island being run as a French Department There is about 120,000 Tamils. Tamil is an optional language for children. SEYCHELLES is a group of islands in the Indian Ocean. Now there about 4000 Tamils in the trading as well as in the professions.
SOUTH AFRICA: Tamil migration started as from 1860. Now there are more than 250,000 Tamils spread over in many cities.
Tamils in Oceania
AUSTRALIA with a population of over 8 million has about 30,000 Tamils. Spread out in all the six states. Tamil is one of the approved subjects for the HSC examination and Tamil skill tests are conducted for children of ages five to sixteen.
NEW ZEALAND has about 3000 Tamils, mostly professionals who have migrated on their own.

That is the common language - TAMIL - and its rich and inspiring manifestations. The Tamil language and the encompassing culture of enduring values have transcended national boundaries.
