யாழ்ப்பாணம் இந்துக் கல்லூரி இதயங்களுக்கு இந்த நினைவுச்சுன எத்தனை ஆண்டுகள் சென்றாலு இந்துக்கல்லூரியின் வற்றாத வளமை பண்பும் என்றும் எமது நெஞ்சைவிட்டு வாழ்ந்தாலும் யாழ். இந்துவின் மைந்தர் வழிகாட்டுவது அக்கல்லூரியின் தாய் "பெறுமவற்றுள் யாமறிவதில்லை மக்கட்பேறு அல்ல பிற என்ற திருக்குறளின் அடிப்படையிலு தந்தை மகற்காற்றும் நன்றி அ முந்தியிருப்பச் செயல்' என்ற குறளின் அமைவிலும் யாழ். இந் அவர்களை அவையத்து முந்தியிருக்க பண்பையும் காட்டி நின்றமை நினைவு நகரத்தையோ கிராமத்தையோ, ந கல்லூரிகளுக்கு பெருங்கடமை கண்ணியத்தோடும் கட்டுப்பாட்டோ தனக்கென ஒரு முதன்மை இடத்6 எழுத்துக்களால் பொறித்து வைத்துள் யாழ். இந்து மாணவர்கள் பிரகா பிரசாரப்படுத்தாத கலை இல்லை. மருத்துவம் இல்லை, தொழில்நுட்பம் அளவிட முடியாத ஆக்கங்களையும் பூ என்பதை நினைவுச்சுவைக்கு கொண் இனிமேலும் நாம் காணத் திருவருள்ச தந்தையுமான யாழ். இந்துக்கல்லூரி தெரிவித்துக் கொள்கின்றேன்.

Coincidence in the extreme. It is difficult to believe but true and all happened during the same period.
Like elsewhere, changes are inevitable in school administration; a transfer or a retirement of a teacher etc.; even death, the inevitable order of life.
But to have all in the same month. The retirements of our principal, deputy principal, hostel warden and the unexpected demise of deputy warden -- all in the month of December 1970.
I would say that the principal, Mr. N. Sabaratnam (popularly known as NSub), and the warden, Mr. K. S. Subramaniam (KSS, pronounced as kesas) had become institutions themselves while running that great institution, Jaffna Hindu College (JHC). Just to put the changes at that time in perspective please See the box below.
How could it happen like this? is not a practical question.
It could be more relevant for philosophically inclined to Search for the truth - the ultimate truth in life.
The factis, it did happen and the real issue was whether the JHC would survive that huge Vacuum created at the top. History proved, it did.

Credit for this success goes to all who took over and ran it from where their predecessors left and to those predecessors who laid a very strong foundation and placed the right systems in place so that an expected and unexpected sequence of events like this will not adversely affect the institution; it's character and performance.
Even now and far away from home, if we are working SO hard to maintain its glory, one need not go further to understand the impact the JHC had left on all ofus.
Now let's go to JHC and turn the clock back to that month of December 1970.
There were only two groups of students who can stay in the school, during the December holidays and they were the hostellers sitting for the O/L and A/L exams. One of the cooks will also stay back to provide food. The college is then at the disposal of these boys who will roam around as if it is a no man's land.
We were sitting for the O/L at that time.
One afternoon, just two or three days before the examination, we were playing in the quarter rank. It was then, we learnt, much to our Surprise and regret that our boarding master, Mr. Namasivayam, had passed

away. Next minute, we proceeded to his house and spent two days doing everything that is necessary for his last journey.
His house was on K. K. S. Road, just opposite to ʻʻPandikottu Pillaiar Kovil LJ6öi pığ)35 (335 TLʻ (6)L’i 56irgO)6Turf (335|T66). It was not far from the school -- takes aboutfive minutes to walk, so went our preparation for the exam. Fortunately, six of the eightpapers were held again in February 1971. Luck, as you can See, work in mysterious ways. That is another story for another time.
Hostel food at JHC was generally good and to celebrate the end of a term they have “Special Lunch on the last day of the school term. To do justice to the Special lunch, if I said that was out of the world, by no means it is an exaggeration. The aroma coming out of those special condiments, spices, flavour of the ghee - all Synchronized to perfection, filling the air in the hostel compound, sets the mood of celebration.
All the teachers and staffare invited. Some day-scholars who cannot resist the temptation seek the help of the hostellers and sneak in. Can anyone blame them for that when the food was so good!
Any way, this creates a lot of work to Mr. Namasiwayam. He was not feeling well during the last days of school. Yet he came to work to make the special lunch, truly special.
I can vividly remember that he was, in those last days, going to the kitchen and taking a sponge bath which We never saw him doing it earlier. At the kitchen tap, he bent down and let the cool water ran on his back of the body. Probably some kind of heatwaves must have been passing through his body.
I suspect to this date, whether his concern for work instead of his health advanced his untimely death. I don't know whether a bit of rest at that critical time would have saved his life and made a world of difference. Though, it never occurred to us then, later on, I think of this and collectively feel a bit of guilt since we enjoyed the sumptuous lunch and he paid for it, with his life. To hostel boys, “Namasi as popularly known and KSS were like de facto parents, and to lose them both at once, was a big blow. Incidentally, not only the functions carried out by these two were akinto a family setup, even the temperament and character of theirs were similar to that in a family.
KSS was the head of the family and was responsible for the discipline and moulding a person and building a personality. Namasi took care of the purchases, food accounting etc. By this comparison, I am not trying to start another controversy but merely reflecting the events in good faith and with good intentions relating to that era and how they divided their responsibilities in taking care of these hostel children.
KSS played his role by his famous pep talks during morning coffee, speeches and story telling, like Mahabaratham on Fridays at the prayer hall, and not to mention the use of heavy artillery - the cane. How else one control a crowd of boys -- about 312 at the last count.
On the other hand Namasi was passive and around all the time in the hostel area - in the kitchen, dinning hall or the office to make sure all the details are taken care of. We had free access to Namasi and it was routine but the contact with KSS was very rare unless you are in trouble.
Naturally, hostellers could not accept the Successors easily instead felt them as step-parents. This lead to many problems and finally our beloved Mr. Sivaramalingam Master and our current president of the association, Capt. Santhiapillai took over the management and brought the much needed Stability to the hostel.
Just to illustrate how the hostellers loved Namasi and KSS, Some incidents comes to my mind. It was a weekend and a tea time. That means we will get a tiffin and a strong milk tea. At that time, there was a person (to protect the privacy of the person and the dignity of the position held by him, his name is withheld) who

lived on College Road between the college and Kasthuriar Road junction came and fought with Namasi outside the dinning hall when all the hostellers were having tea. We were in Grade Nine or so and this incident infuriated an A/L student, Mylwaganam. He came and blasted this man for being rude to Namasi. Only Namasi was then able to calm the student down. -
Thereafter, this person stopped his persistantharassment to Namasi.
Even though we were protected and shielded from the social ills, as in any normal Society, we could not escape them completely. Once there was a notorious gang in town that was bothering some boys in the hosteland meddling with its law and order. They were tinkering the very basis of hostel way of life. Before long, one led to the other and the matter became a big conflict.
One day, when hostellers went to a movie and came back and the senior students came back from tuition classes, this gang also came and met. Pandemonium broke out. This gang did not put up a decent fight but cowardly brought Swords and bottles against the books holding students. KSS got the police to come and dispersed the crowd. Senior students challenged them to come one at a time and fight in the grounds. No one on their side took the challenge.
Why I am saying this is that the hostel boys and these two great Souls - athmas: Namasi and KSS -- have been through thick and thin., and a special bond existed between the students and them.
It is normal to crack jokes at Namasi and equally normal to get beatings from KSS. Strangely enough these events never strained the relationships but enhanced it. They came even closer. In some days we had the morning coffee with salt instead of sugar. That called for another round of coffee (with sugar this time)under KSS s supervision.
It is no secret that everyone, without an exception, was Scared of KSS. Yet, boys were not scared to go and complain if there was a problem with the food or

any other matter. If the students were scared of KSS how were they able to approach him when in need? That is the big question
KSS was a terror on one side and on the other side very receptive to genuine problems and real needs. He displayed two personalities without mixing one from the other. Therefore, students never got a mixed meSSage.
One is discipline and the other is caring. Both together, it was character building that is what he did and did it very well; fundamentals of parenting which I am now learning as a parent but finds it difficult to practil Ce.
N. Sub, as School head, and KSS, as hostel head, were strict disciplinarians. But they had the capacity to attract the students and keep their attention. While holding their attention they will impart knowledge to the students effortlessly and with lots of fun.
They were great masters in teaching, and excellent mentors. They had huge breadth and depth of knowledge in many subjects to tella story at any and every occasion. That is why, crowds of students could be seen Surrounding N. Sub listening for hours even after School.
So was the students with Mr. M. Karthigesan who Succeeded N. Sub.
After December 1970, N. Sub became the editor of Eelanadu, KSS and Mr. Suppiah master went into retirement life. And Mr.Namasivayam passed away in the same month.

தாய் நாட்டின் தாகமும் தாயக மண்ணின் எண்ணமும் வரும்போது பெற்ற தாயும் பிறந்த பொன் நாடும் நெஞ்சில் நினைவாய் எழுந்த வேளை, என்னை வளர்த்த தாயான தாபனங்களையும் தன்மைகளையும், தனிமனிதர்களையும் மறக்காமல் பதிய வைத்திருக்கும் இதயநாடா மெல்லொலி பரப்புகிறது. எங்கு சிதறி விழுந்தாலும் விமானங்களின் கறுப்புப்பெட்டி (Black Box) நடந்ததைக் கடந்ததைக் காட்டுவது போன்று மனிதனின் கருத்துப் பெட்டியும் எந்த நாட்டில் எந்தக் கண்டத்தில் இருந்தாலும் முந்திய முடிச்சுக்களை இறுக்கமாய் வைத்திருந்து அவிழ்த்து விடுகின்றது.
இந்த அவிழ்ப்பின் நெகிழ்விலே என் கட்டுமானங்களின் அடித்தளத்தை அமைத்துத் தந்த தாயாகிய யாழ். இந்துக்கல்லூரி தலை நிமிர் கழகமாய் என்னுள் எழுகின்றது. யான் யாழ். இந்துக்கல்லூரியில் 1955ம் ஆண்டிலே (Special firstform)விசேட ஆறாம் வகுப்பில் சேர்க்கப்பட்ட போது செல்லையா ரீச்சர் என்ற பெண்மணி என் வகுப்பு ஆசிரியை. எனது காலத்தில் யாழ். இந்துவில் இரண்டு வாத்தியக்காமார் படிப்பித்தார்கள். ஒருவரை செல்லையா ரீச்சர் என்றனர். மற்றவரை சண்முகம் ரீச்சர் என்றனர். சண்முகம் ரீச்சர் சிவப்பாய் மெல்லிதாய் இருப்பா. அவரை சிவத்தம்மா என்று அன்றைய மாணவர்கள் அழைத்தனர். நாவலாசிரியர் தகழி சிவசங்கரம்பிள்ளையின் "செம்மீன்' என்ற நாவல் அப்போது கல்லூரி வளாகத்தில் மிகப் பிரபலமாய் உலவியது. எல்லோரும் விரும்பிப் படித்தனர். அதிலே வரும்

அவருடைய அங்கங்களின் சதை வாளிப்பு அப்படியான பெயரைக்கொடுத்தது போலும். இப்படியான பெயர்களை அவர்களுக்குச் சூட்டியவர்களே இன்று பிரபலமான நாவலாசிரியர்களாகவும் சிறுகதை மன்னர்களாகவும் திகழ்கிறார்கள். சண்முகம் ரீச்சர் கனிந்த பார்வையும் போக்கும் உடையவர். செல்லையா ரீச்சர் கடுமையான பார்வையும் போக்குமுடையவர். இவர் உருவத்தால் உருண்டை உடைநடையால் பிரண்டை பிரண்டை என்பது ஒருவகைக் கொடி பச்சையாய் பார்ப்பதற்கு பாம்பு போன்று வேலிகளில் படர்ந்திருக்கும். பிரண்டையை சம்பலாக்கிச் சாப்பிடுபவர்கள் இலேசில் பிரளமாட்டார்கள் என்பது சித்த மருத்துவ வாசகம்.
பிரண்டைச் சம்பலை விரும்பும் நேரமும் விரும்பாத நேரமும் இருப்பது போன்று செல்லையா ரீச்சரை வகுப்பு மாணவர்கள் விரும்பும் நேரம் ஆங்கிலக் கவிதை நேரம். விரும்பாத நேரம் ஆங்கிலத்தில் சொல்வது எழுதுதல் நேரம். Dictation வகுப்பில் எல்லா மாணவர்களும் ஏதாவது ஒரு சொல்லை அல்லது எழுத்தை பிழை யாகவோ மாறியோ எழுதிவிடுவார்கள். அத்தனை பேருக்கும் பிரம்பால் அடி நடக்கும். மாணவர்களைத் தன் மேசைக்கருகில் கூப்பிட்டுக் கையை நீட்டச் சொல்லி கண்ணிர் வரும்வரை அர்ச்சனை நடக்கும். இந்த நேரத்தில் அவவுடைய உருண்டைக்கை பிரண்டைச் சம்பல் வடிவத்தில் தொழதொழத்து உருளும். முகத்தில் மூகாம்பிகைக் கோலம் வலம்வரும். அந்த வகுப்பின் நாற்பது நிமிடங்களும் நாற்பது நாட்களாய் கழியும். செல்லையா ரீச்சரின் அந்தப் பிடியும் அடியும் ஒரு மாணவனுக்கு பிரண்டைச் சம்பலின் ஆரோக்கியத்தைக் கொடுத்ததை மறுக்கவோ மறக்கவோ முடியாது. இன்றும் அவவிடம் படித்தவர்களிடம் ஒரு கணிர் தன்மை காணப்படுகிறது.
பிரம்படி என்ற சொல்லைக் கேள்விப்பட்டால் எனக்கு யாழ்ப்ாணம் பிரம்படி றோட்டும் செல்லையா ரீச்சரின் பிரம்படியும் ஒருசேர நினைவுக்கு வருவதுண்டு. அண்மை யில் ஒரு சமய தமிழ் வகுப்பில் தேவாரம் பாடமாக்காத ஒரு மாணவிக்கு கையால் ஒரு அடிபோட்டேன். அவள் 6T660)6OT LITriggs) "Mr You have no permission to touch my body" என்றாள். யாழ். இந்துவின் செல்லையா ரீச்சரும் பிரம்படியும் யாழ் பிரம்படி றோட்டும நெஞ்சின் அலைகளில் மிதந்தன.

V. SUNT
Thiruvalluvar, the quintessential Tamil poet of universal acclaim and virtue, has given to the World a highly sacred and esteemed literary masterpiece - the Thirukural - which is precise in diction, perfect in instruction, noble and generous in Sentiment, serious and determined in moral purpose, intense and meaningful in thought with the incisiveness of a socio-psychologist and the investigative thoroughness of an educationist. Valluvar should be considered as a divine teacher and his Kural couplets could be classified as a Socio-ethical - moral guide which impinge upon most commonly on our daily lives. In fact, he is a poet par excellence - for all seasons, for all ages and for all humanity unbiassed by any sectarian prejudices regardless of colour, class or creed. Valluvars unique literary style is all the more enhanced when one recognizes the pithy, downto earth eternal truths containing 133 chapters each one accommodating 10 couplets couched in one and a half lines of only seven words of immense incredible practical wisdom.
Kural's 95" chapter is captioned Medicine - yet almost all the ten couplets speak of food rather than that of medicine emphasizing the concept of moderation in eating. According to Valluvar, a person’s illness may be either Karmic or Causative - karmic illness could be the result of one's deeds in one's previous birth(s) which cannot be cured but can only be prolonged or endured; causative illness is the consequent effect of bad or wrong food habits which can definitely be cured by having the proper food Sense, eating habits and life - style.
In the first couplet Valluvar cautions us that if food is either deficient or excessive, the three humors - rheum, phlegm, bile - will cause illness. For these three to be in the right proportion depends solely on what type of food one takes, both qualitative and quantitative.
In the second Kural, he emphasizes that the body requires no medicine if new food is eaten only after the old food is fully digested. The third and the fourth Kurals make mention that to prolong one's living days or longevity one must eat with moderation and only after the food that one has taken is digested. The appetite should be keen; eat the food that agrees with the System.
In the fifth Kural, he states that if one eats abstemiously the food that does agree with one’s system one will have no troubles in the body, thus espousing the

principle-disease and symptom; cause and effect. In the sixth it is stated that health seeks the person who eats only when the stomach is empty; likewise disease seeks the person who eats like a greedy glutton to excess – no gourmandizing!
The Seventh Kural warns us to look at the person who is gluttonous beyond the measure of his pangs of hunger; that person's illness will exceed all proportions. In the eighth kural one should consider the disease and its roots and the means of curing it - with no side effects of course - and then only set about the cure with precaution and Sureness.
In the ninth Kural, he advises that the physician should take full control of the patient as well as the illness and also to take account of the season and then only to set about with the cure.
Finally he summarizes in his tenth kural that the patient, the physician, the pharmacist, the medicine - on these four does all cure depend and they are the attributes of each of them.
It is appropriate to mention that the breakfast is the most important meal of the day because after one has fasted during the night for 10 to 12 hours, one's blood metabolism - the "blood sugar goes down to 64 degrees which must be raised to 100 degrees; yet for many of us it is the meal most often skipped. The reaSon – very busy, no time, got up late - ludicrous, isn't it? Skipping the breakfast will make one moody, irritable, quick - tempered, fatigued and even affecting the output of work! Also drink eight glasses of water - the best gift of God - a day. The advantages are - it prevents dehydration which could lead to damage to the kidneys, the digestive system works smoothly and it reduces one’s appetite.
Evaluate your current eating habits. Define your emotional imbalance - stress, depression, frustration, loneliness, boredom, cultural shock, separation anxiety, Socio-cultural dissonance - which leads to overeating or eating the Wrong junk foods.
Indeed Kural is a Holy Scripture to Humanity

I record with a deep Sense of Sorrow the passing away November 9, 1997 in Tiruchy, India. For well over a quar teaching mathematics and Scouting at the college. He was Some of whom are at NASA, have openly acknowledged math and Scouting.
He had his early education at St Johns College, Jaffna, a math teacher. When I joined him at the JHC in 1975, he numbers entered the universities to do engineering f introduced by the government put a stop to this, denying

முன்னுரை
ஒரு சமூகமானது, தன் மொழியாலும் பண்பாடு, நாகரீகப் பின்னணிகளாலும் வியாபித்திருந்த சூழ்நிலைகளை விட்டு விலகி, முற்றிலும் மாறுபட்ட ஏற்புநிலமொன்றில் குடியேறும்போது, தன்னுடைய தனித்தன்மைகளைப் பேணுவதற்கான செயற்பாடு களைப் பற்றி சிந்திக்க ஆரம்பிக்கிறது. தமது சமூகப்பாரம்பரியத்தின் மீது,அளவற்ற பற்றுக்கொண்ட எந்த சமூகமும் இத்தகைய செயற்பாடுகளில் முனைப்பான ஆர்வத்தைக் கொண்டிருக்கும்.
தமிழ்ச்சமூகத்திலே இத்தகைய செயற்பாடுகளை பரவலாக அவதானிக்க முடிகின்றது என்றபோதிலும் இவை நீண்டகால நோக்கிலே, திட்டமிடப்பட்ட தொடர்ச்சியான செயற்பாடுகளால் வழிநடத்தப் படுகின்றதா? என்று ஆராய்கிறபோது சிந்திக்கவேண்டி யிருக்கின்றது. பாரம்பரிய விழுமியங்கள் பேணப்பட வேண்டிய பல்துறைகளிலும் திட்டமிடுதலுக்கான அவசியம் இருக்கின்றபோதும், அவசரமாகவும் அவசியமாகவும் திட்டமிட்டு செயற்படுத்த வேண்டிய துறை தமிழ்க்கல்வித்துறையாகும். பெரும்பாலான சமூகவிழுமியங்களை தலைமுறைகளுடாக காவிச் செல்லுகின்ற ஊடகம் "மொழி” என்பது அடிப்படை s) 60óró0)LD.
தமிழை இரண்டாம் மொழியாகப் பயின்று கொண்டிருக்கின்ற மாணவர்களுக்கு,அவர்களுக்கான தமிழ்ப்பாடத்திட்டத்தை செம்மையான முறையில் தயாரித்து வழங்கவேண்டியது நமது கடமையாகும். அத்தகைய பாடத்திட்டமொன்றைத் தயாரிக்கின்றபோது எத்தகைய விடயங்களை அதனுள் உள்ளடக்கலாம் என்பது பற்றிய ஆலோசனைகளைக்கொண்டதாக இந்தவுரை அமைகின்றது. இது குழுநிலை ஆய்வொன்றின் முடிவல்ல. சில வல்லுனர்களோடும் சமுக அங்கத்தவர்களோடும், கலந்துரையாடியதன் விளைவாக, பெற்றுக்கொண்ட முடிவாகும்.
ஒரு மொழி கற்றலின் நோக்கம் பெரும்பாலும் கருத்துப் பரிமாற்றத்தையே அடிப்படையாகக் கொண்டுள்ளது. கருத்துபபரிமாற்றமானது, கேட்டல், பேசுதல், வாசித்தல், எழுதுதல் ஆகிய அடிப்படை மொழித்திறன்களைச் சார்ந்தே நிகழ்கின்றது. ஒருவர் திறம்படக் கருத்துப் பரிமாற்றம் மேற்கொள்வதற்கு இந்தத் திறனில் அவர் பெறும் தேர்ச்சி மட்டும்

போதாது, அதனுடன் கருத்துப்பரிமாற்றம் நிகழும் சமுகச்சூழல், பரிமாற்றத்தின் பொருள், பண்பாட்டுமரபு முதலானவை பற்றிய அறிவும் அவருக்கு இருக்க வேண்டியது மிக அவசியம். அதாவது நாம் ஒருமொழியை சரியாகப் பயன்படுத்துவதற்கு மட்டும் கற்கவில்லை, அதனை சந்தர்ப்ப சூழ்நிலைக்கேற்ப பொருத்தமாகப் பயன்படுத்தவும் கற்கின்றோம்.
கனடா பல மொழிகளைப் பேசுகின்ற பல இன மக்களைக் கொண்ட நாடு. உலகின் முக்கிய மதங்களும் இங்கு உள்ளன. மேலும் அதிநுட்ப அறிவியலைப் பயன்படுத்தும் முன்னணி நாடாகவும், அதியுயர் பொருளியல் மேம்பாட்டுடன், முன்னுதாரண நாடாகவும் கனடா திகழ்கின்றது. வளர்ந்து வரும் தகவல் தொடர்பு சாதனங்கள் நமக்கும் உலகத்துக்கும் இடையேயுள்ள இடைவெளியை மிகவும் சுருக்கி விட்டன. இத்தகைய சூழ்நிலையில் மாணவர்கள் நமது மரபுவழிப் பண்புகளை அறிந்து கொள்வதும், பிற இன மக்களோடு இணங்கி வாழ வேண்டியதன் அவசி யத்தை உணர்ந்திருப்பதும் மிகவும் அவசியமாகும்.
வாழ்க்கையைத் திறம்பட நடத்திச் செல்வதற்கு உதவும் மற்றுமொரு திறன் சிந்தனைத் திறனாகும். அது மொழி கற்றலோடு இரண்டறக் கலந்துள்ளது. எடுத்துக்காட்டாக, மாணவர்கள் ஒரு செயற்திட்டப் பணியில் ஈடுபடுகின்றபோது, அவர்கள் தமது பணிக்கு தேவையான தகவல்களைத் திரட்டுவதற்கும், திரட்டிய தகவல்களைத் தொகுத்து மற்றவர்களுக்கு அவற்றைத் தக்கவாறு விளக்கிச் சொல்வதற்கும், சிந்தனைத்திறன் அவசியம் தேவைப்படுகின்றது.

இந்த குறிக்கோள்களை அடிப்படையாகக் கொண்டு அமைக்கப்படுகின்ற பாடத்திட்டத்திலே என்னனென்ன விடயங்களை இணைத்துக் கொள்வதன் மூலம் இந்தக் குறிக்கோள்களை அடையலாம் என்பதைப் பற்றி இனி ஆராயலாம்.
வாய்மொழி, எழுத்துமொழிக் கருத்துப் பரிமாற்ற பயிற்சிகள் வகுப்புகளின் தரத்திற்கேற்ப ஆசிரியர்களால் தெரிவு செய்யப்படவேண்டும். அவை பேச்சுத்தமிழிலே அல்லது எழுத்துத் தமிழிலோ அமைந்திருக்கலாம் இதற்கான விரிவான செயற்திட்ட விளக்கங்களை மற்றுமொரு சந்தர்ப்பத்தில் ஆராயலாம்
1. தமிழ்க்கல்வியின் அவசியம் பற்றிய, தரம்
சார்ந்த கருத்துப்பரிமாற்றங்கள். தமிழ்ச்சமூகத்தின் தனித்தன்மைகள், மொழி: சிறப்பு, பாரம்பரியங்களின் வரலாற்றுப் பதிவுகள் என்பன ஊடாக கல்வியின் அவசியத்தை வலியுறுத்தலாம்.
2. மொழி பற்றிய அறிவு

மேற்கண்ட தலைப்புகள் கனேடிய சர்வதேச மொழிப் பாடத்திட்டத்தில் தமிழ் மொழிக்கான கற்கை நெறிக்குள் பாடப் பகுதிகளாக இனணக்கப்படுகின்ற போது இத் தலைப்புகளானது பின்னாட்களில் அமையவிருக்கும் பூரணமான பாடத்திட்டத்திற்கு தளமாக அமையும் என்று கருதலாம்.

இத் தலைப்புகளும் அதன் கருப்பொருள்களும், பாடத்திட்டத்தில் இணைக்கப்பட வேண்டியவை என்ற கருத்தானது, வெறும் ஆலோசனைகளாகவே இப்போது என்னால் முன்மொழியப்படுகின்றன. இத்தகைய கருத்தரங்குகள் வாயிலாகவோ, அல்லது குழுநிலை ஆய்வுகள் மூலமாகவோ இத் தலைப்புகள் நன்கு ஆராயப்பட்டு, முழுமையான உருவம் பெற்று பாடத்திட்டத்தில் இணைக்கப்பட வேண்டும்.

"நினைத்துப் பார்க்கிறேன்" என்று இவர் எவ்வளவு காலம்தான் எழுதப்போகிறார் என்று பார்ப்போம் என்றொருவர் சவால் விடும் சத்தம் கேட்கிறது. பதினாறு வருடங்கள் படிப்பித்தேன் எனவே கலையரசி அருள் பாலித்தால் ஈரெட்டு வருடங்கள் எழுதுவேன் (படைப்பேன்) என்பதுதான் எனது பதில் எனக்கு யாழ். இந்துக்கல்லூரி ஆசிரியர் கழகம் ஒழுங்கு செய்திருந்த பிரியாவிடை வைபவத்திற்கு வழக்கம்போல் எனது காலத்தில் கடமையர்றிய அதிபர்கள் ஆசிரியர்கள் அழைக்கப் பட்டிருந்தனர். "எங்களுகுப் பிரியாவிடை வைபவங்களை முன்னின்று, ஒடித்திரிந்து ஒழுங்கு செய்த சந்திக்கு நாங்கள் பிரியாவிடை கொடுப்பதா” எனப்பலர் ஆச்சரியப்பட்டனர். இது சதியா அல்லது விதியா என மாணவர்களும், பல ஆசிரியர்களும், பழைய அதிபர்களும் பாடசாலை அயலவர்களும் பேசிக்கொண்டனர். பிரியாவிடை வைபவத்தின்போது காலநேரம் அனுமதி கொடுக்கும்வரை பலர் என் சேவையைப் பாராட்டிப் பேசினர். அதிபர் சபாலிங்கமும் , P.S. குமாரசுவாமியும் வருகை தந்திருந்தனர். அதிபர் என். சபாரத்தினம் சுகயினம் காரணமாக வரமுடியவில்லை. ஆனால் நீண்ட செய்தியை எழுதி அனுப்பியிருந்தார். அது வாசிக்கப்பட்டது. அண்ணர் சிவராமலிங்கம் அவர்களது உடலை கால்கள் தாங்கிக் கொள்ள மறுத்தபோதும் கெம்பீரமாக எழுந்து நின்று கணிரென்ற குரலிலும், அவர் பேச்சு முடியும் வேளையில் தளுதளுத்த குரலில் பேசினார். "தம்பி சந்தி லெப்ரினர் கவனராக கடமை புரியவும் தகுதியுள்ளவன்" என்று சான்றிதழ் வழங்கினார். சிறிது சுகயினமாக காணப்பட்ட மதிப்புக்குரிய சபாலிங்கம் "சந்தியாப்பிளையின் காலடிபடாத இடமே யா.இந்துக் கல்லூரியில் இல்லை" என்று உறுதியுடன் கூறிமுடித்தார். கார்மேகம் சந்திரனை மறைப்பது போன்ற முகத்துடன் என் அன்பு அதிபர் பி.எஸ். குமாரசுவாமி ஆசிரியர்களைப் பார்த்து "என் அதிபர் வேலையில் அரைவாசியை செய்து முடித்தவன் சந்தி" எனக்கூறி அமர்ந்தார். இவைகளை நான் தற்பெருமைக்காகக் கூறவில்லை. நினைத்துப் பார்க்கிறேன் என்று எத்தனை காலந்தான் எழுதப்போகிறார் என்ற கேள்விக்கு சுருக்கமான பதில் கொடுக்கும் நோக்குடனேயன்றி வேறொன்றுமில்லை. கல்லூரிக்குப் பேசமட்டும் வாய் இருந்தால் அதன் ஒவ்வொரு மூலை முடுக்கும், கல்லும் முள்ளும் மதிலும் மரமும் செடியும் ஏன் புல்லும் கூட பல சுவையான கதைகளைக் கூறும். நான் யா.இ. கல்லூரியில் படிப்பித்த காலத்தில் என்று கூறுவதிலும் பார்கக வாழ்ந்த காலத்தில் என்று கூறுவதே மிகவும் பொருத்தமானதாகும். இக்காலத்தில் நிகழ்ந்த

|ல தரப்பட்ட சம்பவங்களை என் எண்ண அலைகள், அள்ளி வருகின்ற வேளையிலே எவற்றிற்கு முதலிடம் கொடுப்பது என்ற கேள்விக்கு விடை காணமுடியாது நிணறுகிறேன். சரி இம்முறை விடுதிப்பக்கம் சற்றுப் ார்வையைத் திருப்புவோம். வாருங்கள் விடுதிப் பக்கம். எனது விடுதி வாழ்க்கையே வயது பத்துடன் ஆரம்பமாகியது. ஒழுக்கம் கட்டுப்பாடு என்றால் என் தந்தைக்குப் பிடித்த ஒரு விடயம். அதனால்த்தான் வீட்டில் இருந்து நான்கு மைல்கள் மட்டும் தொலைவில் உள்ள கல்லூரி விடுதியில் என்னைத் தங்க வைத்தார். பாடசாலை முடிந்து என் ஊர் மாணவர்கள் சிரித்து விளையாடி பஸ்சிலும், வானிலும, சயிக்கிளிலும் வீடு நோக்கி ஓடும்போது நான் அவர்களை திரும்பித் திரும்பிப் பார்த்துக் கண்கலங்கிய வண்ணம் விடுதிக்குள் செல்வேன். பத்து வயதில் திரு. இருதயக் கல்லூரியில் ஆரம்பித்த விடுதி வாழ்க்கை ஐம்பது வயதில் யாழ். இந்துக்கல்லூரி விடுதியுடன் முடிவு பெற்றது.
யாழ். இந்துக் கல்லூரிக்கு மாற்றம் பெற்று வீட்டில் இருந்து பாடசாலைக்கு வருவேன். சாப்பாட்டுப் பொட்டளத்தைக் காவிக்கொண்டு வர விரும்பாத காரணத்தால் விடுதியில் மதிய உணவைச் சாப்பிட விரும்பி விடுதி அதிபர் கே.எஸ். சுப்பிரமணியம் அவர்களிடம் சாப்பாடு கொண்டு வரக் கஷ்டமாயிருக்கு என்று இழுத்தேன். அதுக்கென்ன இங்கே எத்தனையோ மாஸ்ரர்மார் சாப்பிடுகினம் நீரும் சாப்பிடுகிறது தானே என்றார். தொடர்ந்து அரசாங்கம் பாடசாலைகளை சுவீகரிப்பதற்கு முன்பிருந்த விடுதியையும் அதன்பின் இருக்கும் நிலையையும் சுருக்கமாய் கூறி தனது அதிருப்தியையும் தெரிவித்தார். விடுதி மாணவரின் சாகசச் செயல்களையும் கூறியதோடு அவர்கள் எல்லோரும் நல்ல நிலையில் இருப்பதாகவும் பெருமைப்பட்டார். இரண்டாம் உலகயுத்தக் காலத்தில் அரிசிக்குப் பெரும் தட்டுப்பாடு ஏற்பட்டிருந்தபோது யாழ்ப்பாணத்தில் உள்ள இரண்டு விடுதிகள் மட்டும் மூடப்படாமல் இயங்கியதாகவும் ஒன்று யா.இ. கல்லூரி விடுதியென்றும் மற்றையது சென் கென்றிஸ் கல்லூரி விடுதியென்றும் கூறிப் பெருமைப்பட்டதோடு இந்தப் பெரிய உதவியை வல்வெட்டித்துறை முதலாளி (பெயர் ஞாபகமில்லை) செய்ததாகவும் புகழ்ந்தார். ஆறடி உயரமான, அளவான உடற்கட்டமைப்பும் தடித்த புருவமும் அமைதியான நடையும், அமைதியான பேச்சும். ஆனால் திரு. நமசிவாயம்(அவர் உடல் முளுவதும் கருமையான ரோமம்) அவர்களோடு கதைக்கும்போது மட்டும் உரத்த குரலில் பேசுவார். வெள்ளை நிற

வேட்டியும் நசனலும், மெல்லிய பச்சைக்கரை விழுந்த மடிப்புக் குலையாத நீண்ட சால்வையும் அணிந்து காணப்பட்ட இப்பெரியாரில் எனக்கு ஒரு தனி மதிப்பும் மரியாதையும் ஏற்பட்டது. இளைப்பாறிய பின்பும் பாடசாலையோடும் விடுதியோடும் தொடர்புடைய எல்லா வைபவங்களிலும் கலந்து சிறப்பிப்பார். சந்திக்கும்போது தன் அனுபவங்கைளக் கூறி என்னை உற்சாகப் படுத்துவார். கே.எஸ்.என்றால் யாழ். இந்து கல்லூரி விடுதி, யாழ்.இ.கல்லூரி விடுதி என்றால் கே.எஸ். என நாற்பது ஆண்டுகள் சேவை செய்து இறையடி சேர்ந்தார். அப்பெரியாரின் ஆன்மா சாந்தியடைவதாக
நான் யா.இ.கல்லூரியை நன்கு அறிந்திருந்தேன். ஆனால் யா.இ.க. விடுதியைப் பற்றி அறிந்ததில்லை. நான் விடுதிக் குடும்பத்தில் சேர்ந்ததே ஒரு சிறு கதை. அதிபர் என். சபாரத்தினத்தின் ஆசியுடன் யா. இகல்லூரிக்கு மாற்றம் பெற்றேன். இவ்வேளையில் அதிபர் எஸ். சபாலிங்கத்தின் முதல்நாள் பதவியேற்பு வைபவத்தையும் என்னால் மறக்க முடியாது. விடுதிப் பக்கம் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு போகிறேன் என்று சொல்லிவிட்டு அதிபர் பதவியேற்பு, விடுதி அதிபர் கே.எஸ். என்பதைப் பற்றியெல்லாம் அலம்புகிறார் என்று சிலர் கோபப்படுவது தெரிகிறது. அதுதானே நான் ஆரம்பத்திலேயே கூறிவிட்டேன் அள்ள அள்ள குறையாத அமுத சுரபிபோல யா.இ.கல்லூரி வாழ்க்கையின் அனுபவங்கள் என் எண்ண ஊற்றில் இருந்து பெருக் கெடுக் குமே தவிர வற்றப்போவதில்லை. சரி விஷயத்துக்கு வருவோம் ஒரு வருடம் மட்டும் பாட்டளி மக்கள் அதிபராய் இருந்த எம். கார்த்திகேசன் அவர்கள் தன் ஊர் மக்களுக்கு சேவை செய்ய அழைக்கப்பட்டதால் திரு.எஸ். சபாலிங்கம் அதிபராக மாற்றம் பெற்றார். அவர் கடமை ஏற்பதற்கு சில நாட்களுக்கு முன்பே அவரைப்பற்றி கதைகள் அடிபடத் தொடங்கிவிட்டது. அவர் ஒரு நல்ல ஒழுக்கவாதி (disciplinarian) என்றும் யாழ் மத்திய கல்லூரியை ஒரு சில வருடங்களில் கல்வி, கட்டுப்பாடு விளையாட்டு என்பனவற்றில் உயர்நிலைக்கு கொண்டு வந்தவரென்றும் மிகவும் கண்டிப்பான பேர்வழியென்றுப் பரவலாகக் கதைத்தார்கள். சில மாணவர்களைப்போல குழப்படியான ஆசிரியர்களும் கல்லூரியில் கற்பித்தார்கள் அல்லவா. எனவே எங்களுக்கு நிட்சயமாக சீட்டுக்கிளியு. என எதிர்பார்த்தோம். நான் அவரை முன்பின கண்டதில்லை. புதிய அதிபர் பதவியேற்கும் தினத்தன்று எல்லா ஆசிரியர்களும் நேரத்துக்கு முன்ே வந்துவிட்டார்கள். ஆனால் அதிபர் கதிரை மட்டும் 1 மணி மட்டும் காலியாக இருந்தது. என்ன புதிய அதிபரைக் காணவில் லையே? என ஆராயத் தொடங்கினார்கள். அவர் நல்ல நேரம் பார்த்துத்தால் வருவார் என அறிந்தோம். என் நண்பன், உயிரிய6 ஆய்வுகூட உதவியாளர் காலஞ்சென்ற சோமசுந்தர (Lab Somu) மிக வேகமாக பாடசாலை வளவுக்கு

புகுந்தார். தவக்கை பிடிக்கப் போகிறேன் என்று சொல்லிவிட்டு வீட்டு வேலைகளையும் கவனித்துவிட்டு ஆறுதலாக வருகிற சோமு, சந்தனப் பொட்டும் போட்டுக்கொண்டு என்ன அவசரமாக வருகிறார் என எண்ணிக்கொண்டு "என்ன சோமு எங்கே ஓடுகிறாய்” என்று கேட்டேன். "சபாலிங்கம் வந்து கொண்டிருக்கிறார்" என்று சொல்லிக்கொண்டு கந்தோருக்குள் புகுந்தார். புதிய அதிபரின் நெருங்கிய நண்பர்கள் அவரோடு படித்த பாடசாலை அயலவர்கள் அபிமானிகள் (Soccertans) சிலரினால் ஒழுங்கு செய்யப்பட்ட, விளையாட்டு மைதானத்தின் தென் கிழக்கு மூலையில் இருந்து பாதுகாக்கும் ஞானவைரவருக்கு செய்யும் பூசை அர்ச்சனையில் கலந்து கொண்டிருக்கிறார் என்றும, சுபநேரமான 11:30 மணிக்கு பதவியேற்பார் என்றும் அறிந்தோம். On the dot குறிப்பிட்ட நேரத்தில் வெள்ளை கொன்சல் கார் ஒன்று பாடசாலை வளவுக்குள் புகுந்தது. கார் அதிபர் அறையின் யன்னல் கரையோரமாக நிறுத்தப் பட்டது. கார் முன் ஆசனத்தில் பெரிய மல்லிகைப்பூ மாலை ஒன்று தொங்கிக் கொண்டிருந்தது. நண்பன் Lab Somu ஓடிப்போய் கார்க்கதவை திறந்தார். வெள்ளை வேட்டி, மெல்லிய துணியிலான நாசனல், மடிப்புக் குலையாத மெல்லிய நீலக்கரை விழுந்த சால்வை, சந்தனப் பொட்டுடனும் காரைவிட்டிறங்கி நாலாபக்கமும் ஒரு கணம் தன் பார்வையைச் செலுத்திவிட்டு கந்தோருக்குள் புகுந்தார். வாசலில் நின்று உப அதிபர் காலஞ்சென்ற கனகநாயகம்ா அவர்களும் கந்தோர் ஊழியர்களும் வரவேற்றனர். தொடர்ந்து அதிபர் அறைக்குள் சென்று சால்வையை கழற்றி அதிபர் ) கதிரையில் போட்டுவிட்டு அமர்ந்தார். நண்பன் நவரட்னம் கையொப்பமிடும் புத்தகத்தை கொண்டு போய் கொடுத்தார். கையொப்பமிட்டு குறித்த நேரத்தில் பதவியை ஏற்றார். அவரைத் தெரிந்த நெருக்கமாகப் பழகிய தேவன், சொக்கன், சிவராமர், தவம், கனகநாயகம் அப்போது விடுதியை நடத்தி வந்த மகேந்திரன் யோசப் ஆகியோரும் கந்தோருக்குச் சென்று வாழ்த்தி வரவேற்றார்கள். நல்லையா, மகாலிங் கசிவம், திருநீலகண்டசிவம், என் போன்றோர் விடுதி அலுவலக விறாந்தையில் நின்று பார்த்துக் கொண்டிருந்தோம். புதிய அதிபர் வருகையையொட்டி படிப்பித்தலும் அப்பிடியும் இப்பிடியுமாக நடைபெற்றுக் கொண்டிருந்தது. கன்ரீன் நடராசா தமக்கான பாணியில் ஒரு தட்டில் இரண்டு மூன்று தேனீ கோப்பைகள், வடை, வாழைப்பழத்துடனும், கந்தோருக்குச் செல்கிறார். சிறிது நேரத்தின் பின்பு மதியவேளைக்காக மணி ஒலித்தது. உணவு உண்ண வீட்டுக்கும் விடுதிக்கும் ஒடும் மாணவர்களும் அவசர அவசரமாக சாப்பாட்டுப் பொட்டலங்களை அவிழ்க்கும் மாணவர்களும் அன்று அதிபர் அறையை எட்டி எட்டிப் பார்த்த வண்ணம் வலம் வந்தனர். இதில் இருந்து புதிய அதிபரைப் பற்றிய கதைகள் ஆசிரியர்களுக்கு

எட் டியதுபோல மாணவரின் கா துகளிலும் விழுந்துள்ளதை நிரூபித்தது. ஈற்றில் என்போன்ற சில ஆசிரியர்கள் தடிகொண்டு கலைக்க வேண்டி ஏற்பட்டது. அதிபரின் மடிப்புச் சால்வை கதிரையில் தொங்க அவர் கந்தோரில் இருந்து வெளியே வந்தார். அவர் காரில் ஏறி வீட்டுக்குச் செல்வார் என எண்ணினோம். அவர் நேரே உணவு மண்டபத்தை நோக்கி, காலஞ்சென்ற மதிப்புக்குரிய பண்டிதர் செல்லத்துரை, திரு. கனகநாயகம், திரு. சிவராசா, திரு. மகாதேவா போன்ற ஆசிரியர்களுடன் சென்றார். நானும் கூடவே சென்றேன். விடுதி மாணவர்கள் விழுந்தடித்துக் கொண்டு விடுதியின் பலகைப் படிகளில் ஏறுவதும் பீங்கான் கோப்பைகளை சிலர் தட்டிக்கொண்டு இறங்குவதும் மத்தளங்கள் தட்டி சில வாத்தியக் கருவிகள் இசைத்து புதிய அதிபரை விடுதிக்கு வரவேற்பது போன்றிருந்தது. விடுதி மாணவர்கள் எல்லோரும் சத்தம் சந்தடியின்றி பீங்கான்களை மேசையில் வைத்துவிட்டு அதிபரை எட்டி எட்டிப்பார்த்துக் கொண்டு, அன்பன் மயிலு, கட்டை முருகேசு போன்றவரிலும் கண்ணாயிருந்தனர். மயிலு புதிய அதிபருக்கு முன்னால் சுழன்று கொண்டு திரிந்தார். உணவு முடிந்தது. எல்லோரும் கலைகிறார்கள். அதிபரும் சில ஆசிரியர்களோடு கதைத்துக் கொண்டு கந்தோரை நோக்கிச் செல்கிறார். அதிபர் அறைககு வடக்குப் புறமாக உள்ள கடைசி வகுப்பறையின் கூரையை வாகை மரக்கிளைகள் குளிரூட்டிக் கொண்டிருந்தது. அந்த G.C.E. A\L வகுப்பறையைக் கடந்து அவர் நிறுத்தி வைத்திருந்த காரைத் தாண்டி செல்லும்போது "எடே, எங்களுக்குத் தெரிந்திருந்தால் நாங்களும் மாலை போட்டிருப்போம்" என்று அதிபரின் காதில் விழக்கூடியதாக ஒரு சத்தம் வந்தது. அதைச் செவிமடுத்த அதிபர் மெதுவாகத் திரும்பி சிறு புன்னகையுடன் நடந்து அந்த வகுப்பறைக்குள் நுழைந்தார். அவருடன் வந்த ஆசிரியர்களும் புது அதிபரைச் சுற்றிப் சுற்றிப் பார்த்துக் கொண்டு நின்ற மாணவர் கூட்டமும் அதிபர் போன திசையை பார்த்துக்கொண்டிருந்தார்கள். "யார் எனக்கு மாலை போடவிரும்பிய மாணவன்.” என சிரித்துக் கொண்டு கேட்டார். அதிபர் சிரிக்கிறார், பதமையான ஒரு அதிபர் போல இருக்கிறது என சிந்தித்த ஒரு மாணவன் தானும் சிரித்துக்கொண்டு, வஞ்சகமில்லாமல் இவர் தான் சேர்” என்று ஒரு மாணவனைச் ஈட்டிக்காட்டினார். ஒரு அடி எடுத்து வைத்ததுதான். பளிர் என்று கன்னத்தில் ஒரு அறை. அவ்வளவு தான் மாணவர் கூட்டம் சிதறி ஓடி தத்தம் வகுப்பறைக்குள் புகுந்து கொண்டது. அத்துடன் மணியும் அடித்தது பின்னேரப் பாடசாலை வழமைபோல் நடந்தது. ஒரு கிழமை சென்ற பின்பு

ஒரு மாணவன் சிறு தொலைவில் நின்று அறையின் பின்பக்க யன்னல் வழியாக எதையோ ாட்டிஎட்டிப் பார்த்துக்கொண்டிருந்தான். "என்ன இன்னமும் அதிபரைத் தெரியாதா? ஏன் இப்படிப் பார்க்கிறாய்” என்று கேடடேன். “சால்வை கதிரையில் இருக்குதோ என்று பார்க்கிறன் சேர்” என்றார். அதிபரின் முதல் நாள் அடியோடு அதிபரின் சால்வை கதிரையில் இருந்தால் போதும் அதிபர் இருக்கவேண்டிய அவசியமில்லை. பாடசாலை அமைதியாய் நடக்கும். இந்த மாணவன் இக்கட்டுரையை வாசிக்க நேரிடின் வெட்கப்படாமல் என்னுடன் தொடர்புகொள்ளுமாறு அன்புடன் கேட்கின்றேன்.

விடுதி அதிபராக திரு. சிதம்பரநாதன் அவர்கள் நியமனம் பெற்றார். இக்காலத்தில் வேலையற்ற பட்டதாரிகளாய் இருந்த திரு. சிறிகுமார், திரு. மகாதேவா, திரு. அருளானந்தம் அதிபரினால் வசதிக் கட்டண ஆசிரியர்களாக யா.இந்துக் கல்லூரிக்கு நியமிக்கப்பட்டனர். விடுதி அதிபருக்கு உதவியாக சில காலம் சிறிக் குமாரும் , மகாதேவாவும் , வேலும்மயிலும் கடமை புரிந்தனர். மேலே குறிப்பிட்ட அதே சிறிக்குமார் அவர்கள்தான் இன்று யாழ். இந்துக் கல்லூரியின் அதிபராய் இருக்கிறார். இவர் வசதிக் கட்டண ஆசிரியர் பதவியை விட்டு பொலிஸ் அத்தியட்சகர் கந்தோரில் குமாஸ்த்தாவாக கடமை செய்யும் போது அரசாங்கம் இவர்கள் எல்லோருக்கும் நிரந்தர ஆசிரியர் பதவி வழங்கியது. நான் யாழ். இந்துக் கல லுTரி விடுதிக்கு வந்ததே ஒரு குட்டிக்கதையென முதலில் கூறியிருந்தேன். நான் கல்லூரியில் படிப் பித்த ஆரம்பகாலத்தில் வழமைபோல் வீட்டுக்குப் போய் வருவேன். பாடசாலை முடிந்த பின்பு கடேற் பயிற்சிக்கு, இல்ல மெய்வல்லுனர் போட்டிக்காலத்தில் பசுபதி இல்ல வீரர்களுக்கு பயிற்சி கொடுத்தல், சிலகாலம் 17 வயதுக்குட்பட்டடோருக்கான உதைபந்தாட்டப் பயிற்சி போன்ற பிறக்கிருத்தியங்களில் ஈடுபட்டிருந்தேன். இப்பயிற்சிகள் முடிந்த பின்பு கன்ரீனில் தேனீர் குடித்து அரசடி நண்பாகளுடன் அளவளாவி விட்டு வீடு செல்ல இரவு நேரச் சாப்பாட்டுக்கு நேரமாகிவிடும். மறைந்த என் அருமை நண்பன் நல்லையா போன்ற சில நண்பர்கள் சேர்ந்தால் கடைசி பஸ்சில்தான் வீடு செல்வேன். மீண்டும் காலையில் பாடசாலைக்கு வந்து சரியாக சிவப்புக் கோட்டுக்கு முன்னால் கையொப்பமிடுவேன் சில வேளைகளில அதிபர் சிவத் தக் கோடு கீறிக்கொண்டிருப்பார். அவர் போன பின்பு கோட்டுக்குக் கீழ் விழும். இதேபோல பாடசாலை முடிந்து பிந்திப் போவதும் பாடசாலைக்குப் பிந்தி வருவதுமாக சில காலம் கழிந்தது. அதிபர் சபாலிங்கம், P.S. குமாரசாமி,

M. கார்த்திகேசன் போன்றோர் பாடசாலை முடிந்தவுடன் காரிலோ, பஸ்சிலோ ஏறி ஓடுவதில்லை. மாறாக விளையாட் டு மைதானத் தி ல ஒரு சில மணித்தியாலங்கள் இருந்து தேனீர் குடித்து விளையாட்டு வீரர்களை உற்சாகப்படுத்தி வீடு செல்வார்கள். குறிப்பாக P.S. அவர்கள் என்னைப் போல விளக்கு வைத்தபின்பு தான் அனேகமாய் வீடு செல்வார். அதிபர் சபா அவர்கள் என் போக்குவரத்தை நன்கு கவனித்தாரோ என்னவோ ஒரு நாள் பாடசாலை முடிந்த பின்பு வழமைபோல சில ஆசிரிய நண்பர்களும் நானும் கன்ரீனில் தேனீர் குடித்துவிட்டு வெளியேறும்போது அதிபர், கந்தோருக்கு முன் நின்று விடுதிப்பக்கம் பார்த்துக்கொண்டிருந்தார். அதிபர் நேரகாலம் பாராது விடுதிக்கு திடீர் விஷயம் செய்வதாக ஆசிரியர், மாணவர்கள் கதைப்பார்கள். நாங்கள் வருவதைக் கண்டதும் என் பெயரைச் சொல்லிக் கூப்பிட்டார். என்னவோ ஏதோ என்று எண்ணிக் கொண்டு அவரிடம் சென்றேன். ஒரு சிரிப்பொன்று சிரித்தார். உடனே அதிபரின் முதல்நாள் ஞாபகம் வந்தது. என்னைக் கேட்டார் “உமக்கு எத்தனை பிள்ளைகள்” என்று. "நான்குபேர்” என்றேன். அப்போ நீரும் என்னைப் போலத்தான் வந்தால் வா போனால் போ என்ற மாதிரி. சரி, வீட்டிலை மனைவிமாருக்கு அதிகம் கரைச்சல் கொடுப்பது பிடியாது. அவர்களுக்கு ஆறுதல் வேண்டும். "அப்படித்தானே? "ஆம்" என்றேன். நான் உமக்கு ஒரு Punishment தரப்போகிறேன் என்று கூறினார். வேறு பாடசாலையைப் பாரும் என்று சொல்லப் போகிறார் என எண்ணினேன். உம்மைப் போல ஒருவர் இந்த விடுதிக்குத் தேவை. உம்மை விடுதிக்கு Discipline Master ஆகப் நியமிக்கப் போகிறேன். சிதம்பரநாதன் சாப்பாட்டைக் கவனிப்பார். நீர் மற்ற எல்லாவற்றையும் கவனியும் என்றார். நான் தலையைத் தடவிக் கொண்டு ஒரு மாதிரி நழுவுகிற எண்ணத்தோடு ஒவ்வொரு நாளும் மரக்கறி சாப்பிட முடியாது வீட்டுக்கும் போகவேண்டும் என கூறினேன். உம்மை மரக்கறிதான் சாப்பிடவேண்டுமென்றோ, வீட்டுக்குப் போக வேண்டாம் என்றோ யார் சொன்னது நீர் விரும்பிய நேரம் வீட்டுக்குப் போய்வரலாம் என்றார். இதற்கு மேல் ஒன்றும் கூறமுடியவில்லை. அவ்வளவு தான் விடுதியில் இருந்து மிக விரைவில் வெளியேறவேண்டும் என்ற நோக்கோடு நல்ல நாள் பார்க்காமலே விடுதிக்கு வந்துவிட்டேன்
வந்து சில வாரங்களாக நான் விடுதியின் எதுவித விடயங்களிலும் ஈடுபடாமல் பாடசாலை செல்வதும், கடேற் பயிற்சி கொடுப்பதும், குசினிக்குப் போய் சாப்பிடுவதும் , நித் திரை கொள்வதும் வீடு செல்வதுமாகக் கழிந்தது. ஆனால் விடுதி

நடவடிக்கைகளை மிக உன்னிப்பாக அவதானித்து வந்தேன். விடுதி வாழ்க்கை எனக்குப் புதியதொன்றல்ல. விடுதி ஆசிரியர்கள், ஊழியர்கள், சிரேஷ்ட மாணவர்கள் போன்ற பல தரப்பட்டவரினதும் நல்ல, தீய குணங்களை அறிவேன். எனது இரண்டு வார அவதானிப்பில் - மாணவ முதல்வர்கள் தடி, கை பாவித்து மற்றும் வேறு வழிகளில் தண்டனை கொடுப்பது, உணவின் தரக் குறைவு, விடுதி ஊழியர்கள், சமையல்காரர்களின் அசட்டையினம் போன்றன எண் கவனத்தை ஈர்ந்தன. இவை எல்லாவற்றிற்கும் முற்றுப்பள்ளி வைக்கவேண்டும் எனத் தீர்மானித்தேன். ஒரு நாள் இரவு நுளம்புக்கடியும் மூட்டைக் கடியும் சேர்ந்து என் நித்திரையைக் குழப்பி விட்டது. சாமம் ஒரு மணியிருக்கும் எல்லாப் படுக்கை மண்டபங்களையும் சுற்றிப் பார்க்க எண்ணிப் புறப்பட்டேன். முதலில் பெரியமாணவர், அடுத்து நடுத்தர மாணவர், கடைசியாக சிறிய மாணவர்கள் படுக்கும் மண்டபத்தையும் சுற்றிப் பார்த்தேன். ஆறாம், ஏழாம் வகுப்பு மாணவர்கள் படுக்கை மண்டபத்து வெளிச்சத்தை போட்டுவிட்டு நின்று பார்த்தேன். சிலரின் சறங்கள் கால்பக்கம், தலையணைகள் நிலத்தில், இரண்டொருவர் நிலத்தில், சிலரின் வாயிலிருந்து வீணி வடிந்து கொண்டும், பலர் சொறிந்து கொண்டும் உறங்குவதைப் பார்க்க என் உணர்வுகள் எல்லாம் கசியத்தொடங்கியது. இத்தனை உயிர்களும் என் பொறுப்பிலா இருக்கிறது என்று எண்ணித் திகைத்துப் போனேன். அவ்வேளை விடுதியில் சுமார் 250 மாணவர்கள் இருந்தார்கள். அவ்வேளையில் இருந்து அந்த விடுதியை என் வீடு போலவும், மாணவர்களை எண் பிள்ளைகள் போலவும் பார்க்கவேண்டும் என்ற முடிவுக்கு வந்தேன். நான் எடுத்த முதல் முடிவு எந்த ஒரு விடுதி மாணவனும் ஆசிரியரைத் தவிர வேறு தன் சகமாணவருக்கு எதுவிதமான தண்டனையும் கொடுக்கக்கூடாது என்று கண்டிப்பான உத்தரவு பிறப்பித்தேன்.
கலையரசி மலரில் இதழ்கள் அதிகரிக்கின்றது என மலர் ஆசிரியர் முதுகில் இடிக்கிறார். எனவே அன்பான மாணவர்களே! இவர் அப்படித்தான் இடை நடுவில் விட்டுவிட்டுப் போகிறவர் என கோபம் கொள்ள வேண்டாம். கலையரசியின் துணை இருப்பின் அடுத்த வருடமும் தொடருவேன் எனக்கூறிக் கொண்டு "தமிழர் தலை நிமிர் கழகமும் இதுவே" என்று பாடிக்கொண்டு விடைபெறுகிறேன்.
