அழிவதில்லை இது தான் அனுபவமூலம்
அறிந்துகோண்ட உண்மை.
கடந்த சித்திரை மாதம் 28-ம் திகதி
எம்மையெல்லாம் ஆருத்துயரில் ஆழ்த்தி விட்டு மறைந்து விட்டான் என் உடன் பிறவாத தம்பி. ஆணுல் என் சிந்தனையின் அலைகளிலே அவன் நினைவுகள் தெடர்கின்

பொழுது புலர்ந்தது மறுநாளாகியது நான் கோபியைச் சென்று பார்க்க மருத் துவ மனைக்குச் சென்றேன் அப்போது கோபி தன் தாயாருடன் கதைத்துக் கொண்டிருந்தான் மரணம் அவனை அண் மித்துக் கொண்டிருப்பதை தாம் உணர வில்லே 'அம்மா தண்ணீர் வேண்டும்" என்று கேட்டுக்கொண்டிருந்த கே 7 ே திடிரென 'அம்மா என் கைகளை இறுகப் பற்றுங்கள் எனக்குப் பகமாக இருக்கிறது’ என்று கத்தினுள் கைகஃனத் தாயார் கெட் டியாகப் பிடித்துக்கொண்டிருக்கும் டோதே காலன் என்னும் கொடியோன் எங்களிட மிருந்து கோபியைப் பிரித்துச் சென்று விட்டான் பெற்றேர்களின் க ற் ப*ன க் கோட்டையைத் தகர்த்தெறிந்துவிட்டு இள மையில் மாண்டுவிட்டான் அவன் #ಣೆ 6ರಿ தேவன் பாலகஞன கோபியைப் பறித்து நீண்ட நாட்கள் கழிந்து விட்டன ஆளுல் அவனுடைய கள்ளம் கபடமற்ற சிரிப்பும் குறுகுறுத்த விழிகள் பாசம் நிறைந்த தூய்மையான இதயமும் என் நினைவிலே அழியா ஓவியமாக இடம்பெற்றுள்ளது. வெறும் காலத்தால் அவன் நினைவுகளை அழிக்க முடியுமா?

இன்று செல்வத்திலும், நாகரீகத்திலு விஞ்ஞானத் துறையிலும் முதலிடம் வகி கும் அமெரிக்கா தேசத்திலே, மிலா என்ற ஊரிலே புதுப்பொருள்: பலவற்ை ஆக்கித்தந்த பேரறிஞர் தோமஸ் (ஆல்வா எடிசன் அவர்கள் 1847-ம் ஆண்டு பிற தார். வறிய குடும்பத்தில் பிறந்து வறுை யால் வருந்திய எடிசன் அவர்கள் சி தி சமப் பள்ளியில் ஆரம்பக் கல்வியை பயின்ருர் ஆசிரியரின் கடிந்துரை ஒருநா இவர் மனதைக் கலக்கியது தாயாரிட முறையிட்டார் மகனின் அழுகை தாய சின் கண்களைக் கலக்க வைத்தது. மகனே பள்ளிக்கூடத்திற்கனுப்பாது தாமே பாட களை அன்புடன் சொல்லிக் கொடுத்தார் அந்த அன்புத் தாயார்.
தவீன கல்வி வசதி இல்லாத அக்க லத்தில், இருந்த சாதாரண கல்வியை கூட அவரால் பெறமுடியவில்லே. வறுை வாட்டியது குடும்பத்தைக் காப்பாற்று பொறுப்பு அவரைச் சார்ந்தது. தமது பன்னிரண்டாவது வயதிலேயே ஊதிய திற்காக உழைக்கத் தொடங்கிஞர். பு.ை வண்டி நிலையங்களிலும், புகைவண்டிகள் லும் பத்திரிகை விற்றுப் பணம் சம்பாதி தார். இதனுற் கிடைத்த வருமானம் குடு பத்தைப் பாதுகாக்கப் போதியதாக இரு கவில்'ஸ் ஒரு வாரப்பத்திரிகை நடத்தல மென எண்ணிஞரி, ஆளுல் புகைவண்டி அறையொன்றில் ஆரம்பித்த இத்தொழில் நெடுநாள் நிலக்கவில்லை, பத்திரிகை தொழிலக் கைவிட்ட எடிசன் இனிப்பு பண்டங்களையும், விளையாட்டுப் பொருள் களேயும் விற்று வந்தார்.
இவருக்கு பதினறு வயதிலே புகை வண்டி நிலையத்தில் சிறு தொழில் கிடைத் தது. அதஞல் கிடைத்த வகுமானத்தைச் கொண்டு வாழ்ந்ாதர். அக்காலத்திலே தான், இவர் சிந்தனேயதிை தூண்டிவிட்ட

பொன்றை கண்டு பிடித்தார். அக்காலத் தில் நடைமுறையிலிருந்த திருத்தமற்ற தந்தி முறைக்கும் பதிலாக திருத்தமான ஒரு தத்தி முறையைக் கண்டுபிடித் து மிகுந்த புகழ் பெற்ருர். இதனைக் கண்டு பிடித்தமைக்காகப் பரிசாகப் பெற்ற பணம் மேலும் மேலும் பல விஞ்ஞான ஆராய்ச் சிகள் செய்ய உதவியது. இவர் புகழும் பரவியது. சொற்பொழிவுகளையும், இசை நிகழ்ச்சிகளையும் பதிவு செய்து அவற்றைத் திரும்பவும் ஒலிக்கச் செய்யும் இயந்திரம் ஒன்றையும் கண்டுபிடித்தார். இதன்மூலம் "நவீன கிராமபோனின் தந்தை' என்ற சிறப்புப் பெயரையும் பெற்ருர்,

இலங்கை ஒரு விவசாய நாடு அன்றும் இன்றும் விவசாயத்தைே முழுக்க முழுக்க நம்பியிருக்கும் நாடு வற்ருத ஜீவநதிகள் பல வளமூட்( வதால் ஆண்டு முழுவதும் விவச யம் செய்யத்தக்க வசதிகள் உள்ள நாடு. பெரும்பாலான பகுதிகளி வானத்தை நம்பியிருக்க வேண் யில்லாது, வளங்கள் மலிந்து விள கும் நாடு.
ஆனல் இலங்கையின் வடபகு யான எமது பிரதேசம், நமதுநாட டின் ஏனைய பகுதிகளினின்றும் சிறிது வேறுபட்டது. வடபிரதேசம் எ போதும் தனது விவசாய அபிவிரு. திக்காக வானத்தைப் பார்த்து கொண்டிருப்பது. நிலவளம் மிக் தாயினும் வானம் பொய்ப்பின் ஏனைய பிரதேசங்களைப் போலல்லாது வரட்சியால் பாதிக்கப்படக் கூடி தாகும்.

இலங்கை சுதந்திரமடைந்த பின் னர், விவசாயத்தின் முக்கியத்து வத்தை உணர்ந்த அரசுகள், தூர்ந் துபோன குளங்களைச் செப்பனிட்டு அக்குளங்கள் நீர்ப்பாய்ச்சும் பிரதே சங்களில் குடியேற்றத் திட்டங்கக்ள உருவாக்கி, உற்பத்தி பெருகுவதற்கு வழிசெய்தனர்.

பரந்தனை அடுத்துள்ள விசுவ மடுக்குளம், முல்லைத்தீவிலுள்ள முத்தையன் கட்டுக்குளம், மாங்குளத் துக்கண்மையிலுள்ள கனகராயன் குளம், என்பனவும் அவை அமைந் துள்ள பிரதேசங்களைச் செழிப்பான விவசாயப்பகுதியாக மாற்ற உதவு கின்றன. இவற்றைவிட வவனியா மன்னர் பகுதிகளிலுள்ள செட்டிக் குளம், பாவற்குளம் என்பனவும் பல ஆயிரக் கணக்கான ஏக்கர் நிலங்களுக்கு நீர்ப்பாச்சி அப்பகுதி களில் நெல் விளைச்சலுக்கு உதவு கின்றன.

On the racks there re small holes through which the water is drained out. After this he paper is sent on to rollers where they are smoothened and 'olled. Then some of the paper is turned out into exercise books and drawing books.

இவ்வருட முதற் தவணை என் றதும் என் மனதில் முதற்கண் தோன்றியது எமது மன்றத்தின் வருடாந்த இராப்போசன விருந்தே. சில தவிர்க்கமுடியாத காரணங்க ளால் சென்ற வருடமும், அதற்கு முன்னைய வருடத்திலும் இவ் வைப வத்தை நடாத்த முடியவில்லையாத லால் இவ்வருட முதற் தவணையி லேயே எமது இராப் போசன விருந்து நடைபெற்றது. விருந்திற் பிரதம அதிதியாக எமது அழைப்பை ஏற்று எம்மைக் கெளரவித்த எமது முன்னே நாள் கல்லூரி அதிபர் செல்வி மேபிள் தம்பையா அவர் களுக்கும், விருந்திற் கலந்து அத னைப் பன்மடங்கு சிறப்பித்த மற்றும் விருந்தினருக்கும் எமது மன்றம் நன்றி கூறுகின்றது.
