முன்னுரை
ஒவ்வொருவரும் தம்மை மட்டும் கவனத்தில் கொள்ளுவதே வாழ்க்கையாகி இருக்கிறது. சுயமுன்னேற்றமே வாழ்தலும் வளர்தலுமென நவீன அறிவுமுறை போதித்து வருகிறது.
பிற உயிர்களையும் சூழலையும் வெற்றிகொண்டு கட்டுப்படுத்தியதே மனித வளர்ச்சி, நாகரிகம் எனக் கற்பிக்கப்பட்டு வருகிறது.
மனிதர்களுக்கிடையே திறந்த போட்டியும், அதில் வெற்றியுமே பொருளாதார வளர்ச்சி என்ற நிலைமை மேலும் கூர்மை பெற்றிருக்கிறது.

அங்கையொரு பிள்ளைக்கு வைச்ச பாலை எடுத்துக் குடிச்சிட்டன், நித்திரையால எழும்பின பிள்ள பாலில்லாமல் அழழெண்டு அழுதுகொண்டிருக்கு.
ஐயோ தம்பி நல்ல குழை திண்டு கன நாளாச்சு. ஏதோ சருகுகளை மேஞ்சு உயிரைப் பிடிச்சு வைச்சிருக்கிறன். பாலுக்கு எங்க போவன் தம்பி?
ஆ. அப்ப நானிப்ப என்ன செய்றது?

தாத்தா. தாத்தா. அங்கையொரு பிள்ளைக்கு வைச்சிருந்த பாலை நானெடுத்துக் குடிச்சிட்டன், பிள்ளை அழழெண்டு அழுது. ஓரிடமும் பாலில்ல. தாத்தா தாத்தா பாலுக்கு ஆடக்காட்டப் போனன் அவ சொன்னா, புல்லுத் தந்தால் பால் தாறனெண்டு. வயலம்மாட்டப் போனன் அவ சொன்னா தண்ணி தந்தா புல்லுத் தாறதெண்டு அதுதான் உங்களிட்ட ஓடி வந்தனான். தாத்தா கொஞ்சம் தண்ணி தாறியளே?

TEARS OF THE CHLD
(All characters stand in a semi-circle on stage. "Mountain'sits on a high platform. Mousie is in the centre at the frontofthe stage. When the curtain rises, all the characters on stage caw thrice, followed by the cawing of a single crow, which then returns to its place. Now, the child cries, which makes Mousie excited. He runs about nervously and speaks.)

Water, Water, come in plenty. Feed us with your bounty,
Bless us with your glory.
Fill the rivers with water. Fill the land with laughter.
