We consider this as a pleasant privilege afforded to us to pen this editorial in the Medicos week 2009 souvenir.
The main objective of the Medicos’ week is to develop our potentials in sports, leadership, creativity, enhance cordial relationship and unity and relieve stress and strain caused by studies.
This year we celebrate the medicos week with a motto "Rise and conquer-world is yours" and vibrating violet as theme color.
Releasing souvenir for the medicos’ week celebration has been a traditional event annually. This year for a change, our endeavor was to present this souvenir in a different format and pattern and making variations in the contents accommodating articles confining to the medicos week only. We hope that you welcome this change.
We have in this souvenir the messages from our vice chancellor, dean and lecturers of our faculty which we consider as most valuable components.

Besides, we present a record of the final matches played this year which will enable us to retrieve and cherish the magical
movements of the games later on.
We do hope that the article by Mr. Arunakirinathan (Lecturer, ELTC and the coach of university chess team) regarding the change of attitude of students will create awareness and create a positive change'.
Staging dramas in the annual medicos week celebration were enthusiastically done every year. This year too 4 dramas were staged for the competition and the comments are included in this souvenir.
Aesthetic competitions were held this year as usual and the prize winning poetry and short story are included herein.
We thank all of those who have contributed to the successful release of this souvenir.

CHANCELLOR
I am delighted to pen this message of greetings to the medicos' week 2009.
Education does not end up with class rooms, passing examinations and a little of other things.
We need to enrich ourself aesthetically and emotionally to appreciate the best of our culture.
The special space we created as medicos week is aimed in achieving this.
Expressive cultural activities of art and sports will enhance your personality towards the present day expectations of a good doctor with some social sensibility and creativity.
While congratulating your achievements during this celebrations, I wish you all success in your future endeavours.

Message for Me
It is a pleasure to give felicitation messages. I am happy that the medical students find time to conduct competitions and enjoy themselves while developing their soft and hard skills. The “Medicos’ week" should develop good practices; good behavior and good inter personnel relationship. Real “mixing up" should happen during these events.
The general principle is that the students must be praised for their good practices and not to point out the bad ones in the hope that the praise will promote good practices and the bad practices will be weeded out. Unfortunately, students in the past expected praise for whatever they did and they appeared to consider all what they did as good practices: anteadministrative acts and violation of cultural norms were seen as heroic characters. I have reasons to suspect double standards and double faces among students and student leaders of the past. That is why I decided to adopt a policy to point out clearly the practices to develop and the practices to weed out even if it is negative in nature. My words may have been painful to some if they did not realize that their words and deeds caused pain to other students, teachers and to the society. The strategies adopted are :

• Praise must come from others but the Head of the institution
has the responsibility to indicate the shortcomings and bad practices. Insisting on clear objectives for the student activities to
make them known to all students Insisting on advanced planning and make the plans known
before any event Completion of the formalities before the onset of the events.
Make all financial matters transparent to the student body by displaying the accounts on the notice board.
The question is how many students read this message and how many students take it seriously. For those who read this, I wish that the Medicos' week make them satisfy the following outcomes of the faculty as mentioned in the new curriculum.
Possess good communication and inter personnel skills.
• Be able to demonstrate administrative and management
skills. Apply the principles of ethical practice in personal and professional life. Develop as reflective professional.

Message from the president of
It is with great pleasure I give this message to the medicos’ week souvenir as the president of the medicos’ week 2009 committee.
The medicos week is celebrated this year with a motto-"Rise and conquer-world is yours." The objectives of this medicos week are, to enhance students sports activities, to build up the creative talents , to develop team spirit, leadership qualities, personality and interpersonnel relationships, and to enhance planning skills and organizing capabilities.
Unfortunately we were unable to fulfil the all objectives we earlier defined. But at the organizing level we gained a lot of new experiences and developed organising capabilities and we enjoyed the joy of team work a lot. All students must take part in the events
with a true spirit of sportsmanship and unity thus leading to the fulfilment of the objectives. It is not the victories you get that count for, but the talents and qualities you have developed. Play ground is the place where one's true self is reflected. It is the place where personality development and good interaction between students can

be nurtured. The medicos’ week must provide an opportunity to achieve these goals.
We express our regrets regarding the inability to complete this medicos week within the scheduled time frame due to some unavoidable circumstances. Organizing a function of this nature is not a simple task. But we the medicos week. committee have endeavored our best to make this medicos week celebrations a successful one. Our path was not carpeted and smooth but instead we have walked past a tougher one. I wish to thank our committee and all the others who have supported me and been the pillars of strength in the times of hardship.
My sincere thanks go to our Dean, consultants and doctors of Jaffna teaching hospital, and lecturers of Faculty of medicine for their unstinted support and cooperation which enabled us to complete these celebrations successfully. Track and field events The track and field events of the Medicos’ week was held on the 9th and 10th of December with color and glamour. The event was inaugurated by Dr.S.Kannathasan, who was the Chief Guest, followed by the lighting of the Olympic torch. Mr.K.Ganeshanathan, Head of the physical education unit, graced as the Special Guest.

Soccer
The finals of the soccer event took place on the 25th of December between the 28th and 30th.
30th Batch reached finals after beating the 32nd and 31st quite easily with atleast 3 goals in a round. 29th batch gave walkover to 28th batch when one of the players of 29th got injured in the second half when the score was 1-1 and 28th Batch entered through to the finals.
28th batch took the lead by scoring the first goal in the finals. 30th Batch failed to show their talents in the finals and 28th achieved 3 goals in the first half. In the second half they added 2 more and 30th were able to get only a goal. 28th won the soccer championship by 5-1.

Basketball
31st, 27th and 28th batches won the preliminary rounds against 30th, 32nd and 29th respectively and reached the next level. 27th batch couldn't play the next levels due to their tight professorial appointments and thus 31st and 28th met at the finals. 28th took the lead with a very good performance by Janakan of the 28th and won the 31st. This is their first ever time to win this cup. Medicos' Week - 2009

Volleyball (Men)
In the preliminary rounds the match between 30th & 31st was exciting from the very beginning of the game. 30th won two sets out of three and reached the next level where it was defeated by the 28th in two direct sets. 29th entered the finals by beating the 32nd, 28th won the volleyball championship quite easily with 29th in the finals. It is highly commendable to note that they have won this cup for the 3rd consecutive time.

Volley ball (women)
The 29th batch played against 30th batch and 31st faced 32nd in their first games. The 29th and 32nd won the games respectively. The third match was between 29th and 28th batches, and it
was interrupted at the end of the third set when the scores

were 28th:29th 12:14. A rematch was called between the 28th and 29th batches and it was played on the 23rd of December. The 28ti batch won the game in two direct sets with a score of 6:15 14:16. The finals was played between the 28th and 32nd batches on 24th of December and the 28th batch won the game quite easily and emerged as the volley ball champions -women, for the 2n consecutive time of the medicos week.

Table Tennis
After winning the 28th batch by 5-1 and 31st batch by 5-0, 29th batch reached finals where it
met 30th Batch which was qualified by beating 32nd batch by 5-3.
The final match took place in the table tennis court in the university playgrounds on 30th of November, Monday at 3.30 pm
With strong - experienced players in the team, the 29th Batch won the finals 5-0, quite easily. Piratheepan and Piriyatharshin of the 29th batch were adjudged as the best players of the event

'The battle of the kings' started on the 26th of November, Thursday and was held for 5 days in the evening from 6 pm at the 2nd floor of the students' complex.
In the first three rounds 29th batch won all the opponent a teams and obtained 18 points. 30th batch won the first two rounds
with a total of 12 points, but lost to 32nd batch in the 3rd round, gaining only 2 points in that round. In this situation 29th needed only 2 points in the final round – against the 30th to win the championship. Though with an easy target, 29th struggled upto the last minute and finally emerged as the winners with a total of 20.5 points, whereas the 30th were adjudged the runners up with 18.5 points.

Net Ball
The netball finals took place on the 25th of December 2009 between the 29th and 32nd batches. The 32nd batch was qualified to the finals by winning a game with the 30th batch(W.O) the 29th batch after winning the 31st and 28th(W.O)batches.
The 29th batch dominated from the very beginning of the game and all the attempts of the 32nd to shoot the ball were not successsful and the 29th made 17 shots during the 1st half of the game(15 min). After the interval the pace of the game was some what slowed, but both teams exhibited a true spirit of sportsmanship and enthusiasm. During the 2nd of half of the game the 32nd batch made 2 shots and 29th added another 10 to their previous 17. The 32nd batch tried their best till the end and
made the game an enjoyable one.

medicos week 2009.

The badminton finals took place between the 28th and 29th batches on the 2nd of December at 6p.m at the badminton court of university of Jaffna. The 28th batch was qualified to the finals after winning the 32nd and 31st batches and 29th batch after winning the 30th batch.

Suthagar of 28th won the mens single against Vishnukanth despite some superb fight back in two direct sets. The other mens singles was also won by the 28th batch. The 28th also won the two games of mens doubles quite easily. The two women singles and women doubles were won by the 29th batch. The 8th game of the day was the 1st mixed doubles. The match turned out to be a nerve wrecking one as the 1st set and 2nd set was won by 29th and 28th respectively. In the 3rd determining set the 28th batch dominated and won that game, leading their batch to emerge as badminton champions in the Medicos’ week 2009.

முன்னேறியது.
இரண்டாவது சுற்றில் யாழ்ப்பாணத் தமிழர் தமது மேலான பாரம்பரியத்தை மறந்துவிட்டனரா இல்லையா என்ற தலைப்பில் 29ம் 32ம் அணியினர் மோதிக் கொண்டனர். இதில் 29ம் அணி வெற்றிபெற்று இறுதிச் சுற்றுக்கு தகுதி பெற்றது.

நாடகம்
சதுர்க்களம் - நான்கு ஆற்றுகைகள் - நிகழ்ச்சி மிக சிறப்பான முறையில் டிசெம்பர் 6ம் திகதி ஹுவர் கேட்போர் கூடத்தில் மேடையேற்றப்பட்டது. இந் நாடகப் போட்டிக்கு யாழ்போதனா வைத்தியசாலையின் உளநோயியற்துறை ஆலோசகர் வைத்திய கலாநிதி S. சிவயோகன் அவர்களும், யாழ் பல்கலைக் கழக நாடக-அரங்கியற்றுறை சிரேஷ்ட விரிவுரையாளர் திரு. க.ரதிதரன், திருமதி க. நவதர்ஷினி அவர்களும் நடுவர்களாகக் கடமையாற்றினர். நாடகங்கள் மேடையேற்றப்பட்டதைத் தொடர்ந்து திரு. ரதிதரன் அவர்கள் நாடகங்களின் நிறை குறைகளைக் குறிப்பிட்டு முடிவுகளை அறிவித்தார்.
32ம் அணியினர் மேடையேற்றிய நிதர்சனம் எனும் நாடகம் குடும். பத்தில் ஏற்படக்கூடிய பிரச்சினைகளை ஊர்ப்பாங்கில் வெளிக்கொணர முயற்சித்தது. யதார்த்த நாடகம் எனும் வகையில் பாத்திரங்களின் நிஐத் தன்மையை மேடையில் காட்டத்தவறியமையை நடுவர்கள் சுட்டிக்காட்டினர். நிஜ வாழ்க்கையில் மனிதர்கள் எவ்வாறு நடந்து கொள்வர் என்பதை யதார்த்த மான முறையில் காட்டியிருப்பின் அந்நாடகத்தை அடுத்த படிநிலைக்கு எடுத்துச் சென்றிருக்கலாம் என நடுவர்கள் கருதினர். அத்துடன் யதார்த்த நாடகங் களில் ஒலிபெருக்கிகளின் பாவனையின்றி நிஐக்குரல்கள் ஒலிக்கும்போது அவை நாடகத்தை மேலும் மெருகூட்டும் எனக்கருதப்பட்டது.
29ம் அணியால் நிகழ்த்தப்பட்ட யாழ்ப்பாணம் வரவேற்கிறது என்ற ஆற்றுகை சமகால குடாநாட்டுப் பிரச்சினைகளை மையப்படுத்தி குறியீட்டு வகையில் அமையப் பெற்றது. நடுவர் இந்நாடகம் தொடர்பில் கருத்து வெளி யிடுகையில் நாடகத்தின் எழுத்துருவையும் அதில் பயன்படுத்திய உத்திகளை யும் பெரிதும் பாராட்டியதுடன் பல்வேறுபட்ட கதாப்பாத்திரங்கள் மிகப் பொருத்தமாக அமையப்பெற்றிருந்ததையும் வியந்தார்.

The 27th batch, the overall champions of the medicos week of the past two years were unable to participate in this years events due to the heavy work load in the studies and lack of free time as they are doing the professorial appointments. But despite of it they participated in one basket ball match with a true spirit of unity and sportsmanship, in order to mark their support in the medicos week 2009 celebrations. We appreciate theirimmense talents, and their interest in the affairs of the faculty.

மருத்துவ பீடமும் நாடகத்துறையும்
1950களில் இருந்து அரங்கில் செயற் பட்டு வருபவர் குழந்தை ம.சண்முகலிங்கம். கிட்டத்தட்ட 120 நாடகங்களுக்கு மேல் இற்றைவரை எழுதியுள்ளார். அவரது நாடகங்கள் எல்லாம் காலத்தைப் பிரதி பலிப்பன. சமூக தேவையை, சமூக அக்கறையை அடிப்படையாகக்கொண்டவை,
மருத்துவ பீடத்துடனான அவரது தொடர்பு பற்றிய அவருடைய நேர்காணல் இங்கு தரப்படுகின்றது.
மருத்துவ பீடத்துடன் நாடகம் சார்ந்த எனது தொடர்பு இற்றைக்கு சுமார் இருபது வருடங்களுக்கு முன்னர் ஏற்பட்டது. இதற்கு மூலகாரண மாக இருந்தது வைத்திய கலாநிதி சிவயோகன், நவநீதன் போன்றோர் மருத்துவ வாரத்திற்கு நாடகம் சம்பந்தமாக என்னை அணுகியமை ஆகும்.
யாழ் பல்கலைக்கழகத்தில் விளையாட்டு, அழகியல் சார் திறமைகளை மாணவர்களிடையே வளப்படுத்துவதற்கு மருத்துவ வாரம், நாடகப்போட்டி போன்றவற்றை அறிமுகப்படுத்திய பெருமை மருத்துவ பீடத்தையே சாரும். அத்துடன் அதை இன்று வரை தொடர்ந்து சிறப்பாக நடாத்தி வருவதும் பாராட்டுக்குரியது.
அன்றைய காலத்து மருத்துவ வார நாடகங்கள் மிகவும் சிறப்பான தாகவும் முக்கியமான பல கருப்பொருட்களை சிறந்த உத்தியுடன் வெளிப் படுத்தும் விதமாகவும் அமைந்தன. மருத்துவ மாணவர்களின் நாடகங் களைப் பார்வையிடுவதற்கென்றே ஒரு ரசிகர் கூட்டம் அன்றைய காலத்தில் இருந்தது. நாடக அரங்கியல் துறை மாணவர்கள் கூட அவ்வாற்றுகை களிலிருந்து குறிப்புக்கள் எடுத்து ஆராய்ச்சி செய்யும் அளவிற்கு மிகத் தரம் வாய்ந்தனவாக அவை அமைந்தன. இவ்வாறு நாடகம் சார்ந்த ஓர் முறைமை (tradition) மருத்துவ பீடத்தில் நிலைத்து வந்தமையால்

புதிதாகப் பீடத்தில் சேரும் அணிகளும் அவற்றைப்போலத் தமக்குரிய முறைமையை வகுத்து அவை காலந் தொட்டு வளர்ச்சியடைந்து வந்தது.
| இக்காலப் பகுதியில் மருத்துவ பீடத்தில் நாடகத்துறையை மேலும் விருத்தி செய்வதற்கு மருத்துவ மாணவர்களால் நாடகப் பயிற்சிப்பட்டறை (workshop) மூன்று நாட்களுக்கு மிகச் சிறப்பாக நடைபெற்றது. இதில் பல மாணவர்கள் பயன்பெற்றனர். மருத்துவ பீட மாணவர்களால் பல்வேறுபட்ட நாடகங்கள் மேடை யேற்றப்பட்டன. குறியீட்டு நாடகங்கள், யதார்த்த நாடகங்களுடன் மட்டுமல்லாது ஓர் சிறுவர் நாடகம் கூட மேடையேற்றப்பட்டதுடன் பலரது பாராட்டையும் பெற்றது.
மருத்துவ வார நாடகங்களைத் தவிர மருத்துவ பீடத்தின் உள் நோயியல் துறையினரின் வேண்டுகோளிற்கிணங்க இரு நாடகங்கள் வெற்றிகரமாக மேடையேற்றப்பட்டன. அவற்றுள் ஒன்று - “அன்னையிட்ட தீ". இந்நாடகம் பேராசிரியர் தயா சோமசுந்தரம் அவர்கள் கேட்டுக்கொண்ட தற்கிணங்க நுண்கலைத்துறைப் பேராசிரியர் சிவத்தம்பி அவர்களின் வழிகாட்டுதலில் என்னால் எழுதப்பட்டு மேடையேற்றப்பட்டது. இந்நாடகம் தொடர்பான பூர்வாங்க வேலைகள் ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்ட போதே அதைப் பத்துத் தரமாவது மேடையேற்ற வேண்டுமென்ற அவா அனைவர் மத்தியிலும் இருந்தது. ஏனெனில் சமூகத்தைச் சென்றடைவதில் நாடகம் மிகச் சக்தி வாய்ந்த ஒரு ஊடகமாக இருந்தது. இந்நாடகம் அக்காலத்திலே நிலவிய யுத்தத்தினால் ஏற்பட்ட உளவியல் தாக்கங்களை குறிப்பாக காணாமல் போதலினால் ஏற்படும் தாக்கங்களைக் கருப்பொருளாகக் கொண்டது. இந்நாடகத்திற்குச் சில நோயாளர்களின் வாழ்க்கைச் சரிதம் (Case study) அடிப்படையாக அமைந்திருந்தது. இதன்போது நிஜ கதாபாத்திரங்களும் உருவகக் கதாபாத்திரங்களும் மிக நேர்த்தியாகக் கையாளப்பட்டிருந்தது. மேலும் உளவள ஆலோசனை முறை (counseling) மக்களைச் சென் றடைய இந்நாடகம்பெரும் பங்களிப்புச் செய்திருந்தது. இதன் பின்னர் பெரும் எண்ணிக்கையான மக்கள் உளவள ஆலோசனை மூலம் தமது உளவியல்

தாக்கங்களுக்குத் தீர்வு காண்பதற்கு ஆர்வம் காட்டினர். மேலும் எதிர் பார்க்கப்பட்டது போலவே பத்துத் தடைவைகள் மேடையேற்றப்பட்டது.
மருத்துவ பீடத்துடன் எனக்கிருந்த தொடர்புகளில் சவாலாக இருந்து பெரு வெற்றி பெற்ற மற்றைய நாடகம் - வேள்வித் தீ”. இந்நாடகத்தில் பெண்ணின் கற்பு மையக்கருவாக இருந்தமையாலும் கற்பிழந்த பெண்கள் குடும்பம், சமூகம், சூழல் போன்ற மட்டங்களில் பண்பாடு கலாசாரம் என்ற போர்வையில் எவ்வாறு பார்க்கப்படுகின்றனர் போனடற விடயங்கள் கையாளப்பட்டிருந்தமையாலும் மிகுந்த பண்பாட்டு அழுத்தங்களை ஏற்படுத்தியிருந்தது. இதனை நெறிப்படுத்தும் போதே எனக்கும் மருத்துவ பீடத்திற்குமிடையே எமது செய்திகளை எவ்வாறு மக்களிடம் சமர்ப்பிப்பது என்பதில் கருத்து முரண்பாடுகள் இருந்தது. இந்நாடகத்திற்கான கதாபாத்திரங்களைத் தேர்வு செய்யும் போது தமது வேலைப்பளுவினால் சில மாணவர்கள் மட்டுமே சமூகமளித்திருந்தனர். எனினும் மருத்துவ மாணவர்களின் சமூகப் பொறுப்பும் நாடகத் திறமையும் ஒரு நேர்த்தியான ஆற்றுகையைப் பிரசவித்திருந்தன. இந்நாடகத்தில் Dr.நளாயினி, Dr.கீத் ஆகியோர் காத்திரமான கதாபாத்திரங்களை ஏற்று நடித்திருந்தனர்.
இதன் பின்னர் அண்மைக்காலங்களில் மருத்துவ பீட நாடகக் கலாச்சாரத்தில் பாரிய மாற்றமொன்று ஏற்பட்டுள்ளமையை அவதானிக்கக் கூடியதாக உள்ளது. தற்காலத்திலே மருத்துவ வாரத்திலே மட்டுமே நாடகங்கள் மேடையேற்றப்பபட்டிருக்கின்றது. இந்த இடைவெளியானது மருத்துவபீடத்தின் ஆரம்ப நாடகக் கலாசாரத்திலிருந்து மாற்றத்தை உருவாக்கியுள்ளது. இம்முறை மருத்துவ வாரத்தில் மேடையேற்றப்பட்ட நாடகங்களிலும் அது பிரதிபலித்திருந்தது. இம்முறை 4 ஆற்றுகைகள் மேடையேற்றப்பட்டிருந்தன. இதில் 2 நாடகங்கள் யதார்த்த நாடகங்களாக அமைந்திருந்தன. அவற்றில் ஒரு நாடக ஆரம்பத்தில் வழங்கப்பட்ட விவரணமானது நாடகம்முலம் அதாவது நடிப்பின் மூலம் வெளிப்படுத்த வேண்டிய கருப்பொருளை ஆரம்பத்திலேயே வெளிப்படுத்தியமை அதன் மீதான எதிர்பார்ப்பை குறைத்திருந்தது. இந்நாடகங்களில் உத்திகள்

சரியான முறையில் கையாளப்பட்டிருக்கவில்லை. மேலும் முதிர்ச்சியற்ற தன்மையும் ஆங்காங்கே வெளிப்பட்டிருந்தது.
மற்றைய இரு நாடகங்களும்ஒன்றுக்கொன்று சவால்விடுவதாக அமைந் திருந்தன. இதில் “வாடிய பயிர்” என்கின்ற நாடகம் 28ஆம் அணியால் மேடையேற்றப்பட்டிருந்தது. சமகால மனிதர்களின் மனிதாபிமானத்தினை - மனித விழுமியங்களை அடிப்படையாகக் கொண்டிருந்தது. இந்நாடகம் காட்சிப்படுத்திய விதம் மிகவும் சிறப்பாக அமைந்திருந்தது. ஆனால் இந்த நாடகத்தில் இரு கதாபாத்திரங்களின் உரையாடலானது பட்டிமன்றம் போல் அமைந்திருந்ததுடன் சிறிய தொய்வையும் ஏற்படுத்தியிருந்தது.
மற்றைய “யாழ்ப்பாணம் வரவேற்கிறது” என்கின்ற நாடகம் 29ஆம் அணியால் மேடையேற்றப்பட்டிருந்தது. யாழ்ப்பாணத்தில் சமகாலத்திலுள்ள பல்வேறுபட்ட மக்களின் நடைமுறைப் பிரச்சினைகளை வெளிக்கொணர்ந்தி ருந்தது. பெருமளவு உரையாடல்கள் குறைக்கப்பட்டு உணர்வுகள் அனைத்தும் நடிப்பின் மூலம் வெளிக்கொணரப்பட்டிருந்ததுடன் மிகச்சிறந்த நாடக உத்திகள் நேர்த்தியாக கையாளப்பட்டிருந்தது. மேலும் இந்நாட கத்தில் பயன்படுத்திய “யாழ்ப்பாணம் வரவேற்கிறது” என்கின்ற வளைவு மிகவும் பாராட்டுக்குரியதாக அமைந்ததுடன் அவ் உத்தியை பயன்படுத்திய விதம் என்னையே பொறாமை கொள்ளச்செய்திருந்தது. அவ்வளைவே மீண்டும் "நன்றி மீண்டும் வருக” எனக்கூறி பல விடயங்களைப்பேசியிருந்தது. எனினும் இந் நாடகத்தை மேடையேற்றிய விதத்தில் காணப்பட்ட சில குறைகளினால் இந்நாடகம் இரண்டாம் இடத்திற்கு தள்ளப்பட்டிருக்கலாம்.
இவ்வாறு நாடகத்துறையுடன் பின்னிப்பிணைந்துள்ள மருத்துவபீட சமூகமானது நாடகங்களை உருவாக்கிமேடையேற்றும் பணியைத்தொடர் வேண்டும். மருத்துவ வாரத்தில் தொடர்ந்தும் நாடகப் போட்டியானது இடம் பெறவேண்டும். மேலும்பலதரமான நாடகங்களைத் மருத்துவ பீடம்தயாரித்து தனது நாடகக் கலாசாரத்தை மீண்டும் பழைய நிலைக்குக் கொண்டுவர வேண்டும் என்று எதிர்பார்க்கின்றேன்.

Quiz
In order to develop the reading habits of the students and to promote their knowledge on current affairs happening around the world, the Quiz contest is held annually as part of the Medicos week events.
The questions were based on the following topics - Science and technology, Religion and philosophy, Literature and language, Art and culture, Sports, Current affairs, Social science,
History, Medicine, Photos.
The competition was conducted by Mr.T.Arunakirinathan, Instuctor in English, ELTC on the 25th of December, 2009 at 5.30 pm. From the start, the 28th batch scored well in each round and at the end of the 9th round the 28th and 29th had a score of 128.55 and 113.55 respectively. The final round turned out to be a nerve
wrecking one as 29th scored 17.5 and was in the lead upto the last question. The last question was fired to the 32nd batch and as they failed to answer, the question was passed to the other batches and 28th came out with the correct answer and scored 5 points in that round, leading their batch to victory while the 29th Batch lost by just 0.9 points.
Final scores - 28th – 133.55, 29th–132.65, 32nd –95.00, 30th – 64.45,
31st – 48.20.

I have great pleasure to pen this message to the Medicos' week souvenir. Annually the medical students are conducting the medicos' week programme for nearly one month which is one of the important event for them. I am confident that every student will show their talents through this medicos'
week events. This is a good opportunity for them to relax, participate and win the prizes. I am sure that this medicos’ week will provide a wide range of experience for the students by participating in various events. On the final day programme they used to release a souvenir for the mark of medicos' week which consist all type of news.
I wish to convey my heartiest congratulations to 29th Batch of students who are conducting the medicos' week and involved in making the souvenir. I hope that the souvenir
will be an excellent and memorable one.

கடும்பனி, கொடுங்குளிர், ஓவென்ற வெளி. அதில் சிறிய சிறிய புள்ளிகள் போல் பற்பல கூடாரங்கள், கூரைகளாய் போர்த்தப்பட்டிருந்த அந்த தறப்பால்கள் "UNHCR” என்று தாம் இங்கு எப்படி வந்தோம் என்பதை பறைசாற்றிக் கொண்டிருந்தன. அந்தக் கூடாரங்கள்தான் யுத்தத்தால் அவலமாக்கப்பட்ட ஆயிரம் ஆயிரம் மக்களின் புகலிடங்கள். சொந்த இடத்தை தொலைத்து எதிர்காலத்தை இழந்து இடிந்து போயிருந்தனர் அவர்கள்.
அப்பெருவெளியில் சிதறிப்போயிருந்த கூடாரங்களில் ஒன்றில் இருந்து இந்த அந்தகார இருளிலும் பேச்சுக்குரல்கள் கேட்டவண்ணமிருந்தன. “அம்மாஇ உனக்கு இப்ப இந்த ஊர் பெயர் தெரியாத பிள்ளை முக்கியமா? இல்லை நீ உன்னுடைய கடைசிகாலத்தில் எங்களுடன் வந்து இருக்கப் போகிறாயா? கடுந்தொனியில் கேட்டான் சிவா. ஓன்றரை வருடங்களாக ஒட்டி உறவாடிய அந்த உறவை பிய்த்து உதறிவிட முடியாமல் தவித்தவளாக “பிஞ்சுக்குழந்தையடா... எப்படி, எங்கே விட்டுவிட்டு வருவது. நான் துாக்கி வளர்த்த பிள்ளை..." தன் வயிற்றில் சுமந்த மகவிடம் தன் உள்ளத்து ஆசையை உரைக்க முடியாமல் திணறினாள் அந்தத் தாய். இவள்... பாக்கியம். "ஏன் நாளைக்கே எங்களை காம்புக்கு மாத்த போகிறாங்கள். அங்கை இருக்கிற பெரியவங்களிடம் இந்தப்பிள்ளையை முழுவிபரத்தையும் சொல்லிக்கொடுப்போம். சுரியா... உன்னை மட்டுமில்லாமல் உந்தப்பிள்ளையையும் பொறுப்பெடுக்க சொல்கிறாயா' இது தான் முடிவு. பேசாமல் படுத்து துாங்கு” உத்தரவிட்டு முடித்தான் மைந்தன்.

யார் இந்தப்பிள்ளை? சொந்தங்களை விட்டு இவன் மட்டும் இங்கே எப்படி வேறோர் கைகளில்.... ஆம் இந்தப்பாலகன் நிமலன், ஷியாம்பிரேமினியின் செல்ல மகன். ஷியாம் இரண்டு வருடங்களுக்கு முன்பு இன்று யுத்தத்தால் ஓய்ந்து கிடந்த ஊருக்கு மனைவியுடன் மாற்றலாகி வந்தவன். அரசாங்க திணைக்களம் ஒன்றில் அதிகாரி அவன். பெற்றோரின் சம்மதமின்றி காதலித்து பலத்த எதிர்ப்புக்களின் மத்தியில் பிரேமினியை கைப் பிடித்தபோது கிடைத்த வேலைமாற்றம் தேவைதான் என உள்ளுக்குள் மகிழ்ந்து பெற்றோருக்கும் உற்றோருக்கும் அறிவிக்காது இவ் ஊர் வந்து சேர்ந்துவிட்டான்.
அமைதியான வாழ்க்கை, அன்பான மனைவி ஆனால் சொந்தம் என்று சொல்ல வேறுயாரும் இல்லாததுதான் ஒரு குறை. என்றாலும் இருவரும் ஒருவருக்கொருவர் ஆதாரமாய், நல்ல இணைகளாய் இனிதாக வாழ்ந்தனர். அவர்களின் தனிமைக்கு மருந்தாக உறவுகள் இருந்தும், அவற்றை இழந்து தொலைத்துவிட்ட அவர்களின் வலி நிறைந்த நினைவுகளுக்கும் ஆதாரமாக வந்துதித்தான் அவர்கள் பிள்ளை நிமலன். நிமலன் பிறந்தவேளை தனிமையில் தவித்த பிரேமினிக்கு பக்கத்து வீட்டில் குடிவந்த பாக்கியம் அம்மம்மா பெருந்துணையானாள். பெற்ற தாய்போல பிரேமினியை தாங்கினாள். பெண்பிள்ளை இல்லாத குறையை பிரேமினியின் பாசத்தால் மறந்திருந்தாள் பாக்கியம்.
காலங்கள் கரைந்தோடின. அமைதி நிறைந்த அவர்கள் ஊர் யாரும் எதிர்பார்க்காதிருந்த அந்தவேளை சில குண்டுகளால் அதிரத்தொடங்கியது. "என்னப்பா, திடீரென்று இப்படி ஷெல் அடிக்கிறாங்கள், பயமாக்கிடக்கு." இது பிரேமினி. "அப்படி ஒன்றும் பெரிய சண்டை நடக்காது, நீ பயப்படாதை..... ஆனால் கவனமாக இருக்கவேண்டும்” என்று எப்போதும் எதிலும் நிதானமாக எதையும் திட்டமிட்டு நிறைவேற்றும் ஷியாம் கூறினான். ஆனால் அவர்கள் எதிர்பார்த்தது போலன்றி காதைப்பிளக்கும் வேட்டொலிகளும், ஓய்வின்றி வானத்தில் வட்டமடிக்கும் விமானங்களும்,

நாளுக்கு நாள் மோசமாகி சென்று கொண்டிருந்த நிலைமை, அக்கம் பக்கத்தில், அறிந்தவர் தெரிந்தவர் என்று பலரும் முகவரியின்றி முடிந்து போவதற்கு வித்திட்டு மரணஅவலத்தை நிறைத்துவிட்டிருந்தது ஊரில். பச்சைக் குழந்தைக்கு பால்வாங்க செல்ல வெளியே செல்ல முடியாத நிலை. பசியால் பதறும் வயிற்றைக்கட்டி, சேகரித்த பொன்னை சேதார மாக்கி பிள்ளையின் பசியை எத்தனை நாட்களுக்குத்தான் தீர்ப்பது? ஓய்ந்து போயிருந்த அவர்களிடம் இன்னமும் சிறு எதிர்பார்ப்பு. “இந்தச்சண்டை முடிய வீட்டுக்காரர் காலில் விழுந்து மன்னிப்பு கேட்கவேண்டும் பிரேமினி... அவர்களை விட்டுட்டு வந்த பாவம்... எங்களை கஷ்டப்படுத்துது” இது ஷியாம். “ஓமப்பா.... அம்மா அப்பாவுடன் போய்சேர்ந்தலே போதும்..." இது பிரேமினி. "கவலைப்படாதையுங்கோ எல்லாத்துக்கும் ஒரு நல்ல முடிவு கிடைக்கும். இந்தச்சண்டையை பிடித்து என்னத்தைதான் சாதிக்க போயினமோ தெரியல்லை, அநியாயமாய் அப்பாவிச்சனங்கள் செத்து முடியிறதுதான் முடிவாயிருக்கும்.” இது அவர்கள் வீட்டு பதுங்கு குழியில் பாதுகாப்பு தேடிவந்த பாக்கியம்.
நாட்கள் நகர நகர அவ்ஊரில்மிச்சமாயிருந்தவர்களும்வேறு புகலிடங்கள் தேடி சென்றுகொண்டிருந்தனர். நாளுக்கு நாள் அதிகரித்து சென்ற கொடிய யுத்தம் பலரை முழுமையாக பறித்ததோடு மட்டுமன்றி சிறியவர்கள், பெரியவர்கள்இபெண்கள், பிள்ளைகள் என பலரையும் அங்கவீனர்களாக, அநாதைகளாக, சித்தம் கலங்கியவர்களாக செதுக்கிவிட்டிருந்தது.
“வாங்கோப்பா பொம்மர் வருது... நானும் பிள்ளையும் அம்மம்மாவும் உள்ளுக்குள்ளே தான் இருக்கிறோம்.” அவசரத்துடன் கத்தினாள் பிரேமினி. அவசரத்துக்கு கூட வெளியே செல்ல முடியாத நிலைமையை எண்ணி நொந்தபடி பதுங்கு குழி வாயிலை அவன் நெருங்கிய வேளை

எங்கிருந்தோ ஒரு வேட்டு கூவிக்கொண்டு சென்றது. " எழும்புங்கோ அப்பா பொம்மர் போட்டுது போல... என்ன செய்வம் நாங்கள், இங்கிருந்து வெளிக்கிடுவோமா..? பச்சைப் பிள்ளையையும் வைத்து கொண்டு என்ன செய்வது?.... தொடர்ந்த அவள் குரல் பதிலின்றி அசைவின்றி கிடந்த கணவனிடம் தேய்ந்து ஒலித்தது. உண்மையை உணர்ந்து உறைந்து போனாள் அவள். உள்ளுக்குள் சில்லிட சூழ நடப்பவை தெரியாது அதிர்ந்து இருந்தாள் அவள். பாலகனின் மழலை மொழி கேட்டும் பதிலேதும் இன்றி பாறையாய் ஓய்ந்திருந்தான் ஷியாம். இதுவரை உயிருக்கு புகலிடம் தந்த அந்த பதுங்கு குழியே ஷியாம் உடலுக்கு சவக்குழியாக ஊரை விட்டு பாக்கியம் அம்மம்மாவின் கைப்பிடியில் எங்கோ இலக்கின்றி விரைகிறாள் பிரேமினி. வெறுமையாய் விரிந்திருந்த காட்சிக்குள் மார்பில் அணைத்திருந்த மகவின் சிணுங்கல் ஏதோ கதை சொல்லி அவள் இருப்பை அவள் மனதுக்குள் உறுதிப்படுத்தியது.
பாதை நீண்டு கொண்டிருந்தது. அவள் பயணம் முடிந்தபாடில்லை. இலக்கற்று விரைந்த அவளை இலக்கு வைத்தது ஒரு வேட்டு. வேரோடு சாய்ந்தாள் அவள். அவள் கைகளில் இருந்து சற்று முன் தான் கைமாறிய
குழந்தைக்கு இது அதிஷ்டமா? அவலமா?.
“பிரேமினி, ஷியாம் என்ற தங்கள் மகளையும் மருமகனையும் பிமிேனியின் தாய் தந்தையர் தேடுகின்றனர். அவர்கள் எங்கிருந்தாலும் உடனடியாக கீழ்க்காணும் முகவரிக்கு தொடர்பு கொள்ளுங்கள். பழைய கோபங்களை மறந்து எங்களுடன் வந்து சேர்ந்துவிடம்மா.. இப்படிக்கு அன்புடன் அப்பா... அம்மா” பரிதாபம், இரக்கம், ஏக்கம் கலந்து உரைத்த வந்த அறிவிப்பாளரின் குரல் அந்த அநாதை ஆசிரமத்திலும் காற்றலையில் வந்து கலந்து கொண்டிருக்கிறது. அந்த ஆசிரமத்தில் ஒரு ஏணையில் நிமலன் ஏதும் அறியாது உறங்கி கொண்டிருக்கிறான்...

முதலிடம் பெற்ற சிறுகதை =( நிஜம் தானா...?

28ம் அணி. சிந்தித்துப்பார்க்கும் போது எல்லாமே நேற்று நடந்ததைப்போல இருந்தது அனுஷாவுக்கு. அவள் மருத்துவபீடத்திற்குள் நுழைந்தது. பகிடிவதை...பரீட்சைகள்.பல நிகழ்வுகள்.... எல்லாமே முடிந்து இன்று அவள் ஓரு மருத்துவர்.... யாழ் மருத்துவபீடம் உருவாக்கிய பல முத்துக் களில் ஒரு நல்முத்து அவள். இறுதிப்பரீட்சையில் அகில இலங்கையிலே முதலாவதாக வந்தவளை கொழும்பு தேசிய வைத்தியசாலை “வா வா" என்று இருகரம் நீட்டி வரவேற்றபோது அதைவிடுத்து யாழ்.மண்ணுக்கு சேவை புரிய முடிவெடுத்தவள்.
“இந்தப் பூமிக்கு புதுப்பூவை கொண்டுவரும்போது எனது உள்ளத்தி லிருந்து உடல் முழுவதும் பரவுமே... ஒரு சில்லிப்பு... அது உங்களுக்கு தெரியுமா? என்று கேட்பவள். அதற்காகவே பெண்நோயியல் மற்றும் மகப்பேற்றியல் துறையை தனது மேற்படிப்புக்காக தேர்ந்தெடுத்தவள். யாழ் போதனா வைத்தியசாலையில் உள்ளகப் பயிற்சியை முடித்துவிட்டு இப்பொழுது இரண்டு வருடங்களாக அங்கேயே சேவையாற்றுபவள்.
“ஐயோ.. அம்மா... என்னால ஏலாது.. டொக்டர் ஏதாவது செய்யுங்கோ..." பிரசவ அறையிலிருந்து ஒரு தாயின் கதறல்.
“அம்மா... அது பிரச்சனையில்லை... இன்னும் கொஞ்சம் முக்குங்கோ....இன்னும் கொஞ்ச நேரத்தில பிள்ளை வெளியால வந்திடும்.” அரவணைத்து ஆற்றுப் படுத்தும் மருத்துவமாதின் ஆலோசனை.

“மிஸ்.. தலை வெளியால வந்திட்டுதோ பாருங்கோ... நான் இந்தப்பேஷண்டுக்கு தையல் போட்டுட்டு வாறன்..” அதிகாலை மூன்று மணியிலிருந்து விடுதி வைத்தியரின் ஆயாசக்குரல். எல்லாவற்றையும் கேட்டவாறே பிரசவ அறையினுள் நுழைந்த அனுஷா அங்கே எல்லாவற்றையும் சரிபார்த்துவிட்டு வெளியே வரும்போது தான் அந்தக் கர்ப்பிணித்தாயை கவனித்தாள். அருகிலே சாமான்களை சுமந்தபடி இனம் புரியாத கலவரத்துடன் அவளுடைய கணவன்.
அந்தப்பெண்ணிற்கு 24 அல்லது 25 வயது தான் இருக்கும். மஞ்சள் பூசி மினு மினுத்த முகம்.. நடுநெற்றியில் அழகான குங்குமம்... மூக்கிலே பளபளத்த மூக்குத்தி... அந்த அபார அழகு தாய்மையின் அழகுடன் சேர்ந்து இருமடங்காகத்தெரிந்தது.. ஆனால் அவை எல்லாவற்றையும் விட அந்தப்பெண்ணின் முகத்தில் இருந்த அளவுகடந்த பயம் தான் அனுஷாவின் கவனத்தை ஈர்த்தது. விடுதிவைத்தியர் பிரசவ அறையில் இருப்பதால் தானே அந்தப்பெண்ணை விசாரித்து பரிசோதிக்க உள்ளே அழைத்துச்சென்றாள் அனுஷா.
“அம்மா... உங்களுக்கு என்ன பேர்?” “திலகா” “எத்தினை வயது?" “24” “இது எத்தினையாவது பிள்ளை?” “இது தான் முதலாவது பிள்ளை”
கடைசியாய் மாதவிடாய் ஏற்பட்ட திகதிபிள்ளைப்பேற்றை எதிர்பார்க்கும் திகதி எல்லாம்கேட்டு எழுதும்போது திடீரென பொறிதட்டியது அனுஷாவிற்கு. “அம்மா.. இப்பதானே உங்களுக்கு 32 கிழமை முடிஞ்சிருக்கு... இப்ப ஏனம்மா வந்தனீங்கள்.? ஏதாவது பிரச்சினையோ..?”
“ஓம் டொக்டர்... நேற்றைக்கு இரவில இருந்து தீட்டு போகுது. எனக்கு பயமாயிருக்குது டொக்டர்..” சொல்லும்போதே அந்தப்பெண்ணின் குரல் உடையத்தொடங்கியது.

அனுஷாவின்ஐம்புலன்களும் உடனே விழித்துக்கொண்டன. அவசர அவ சரமாக மேற்கொண்டுவிசாரிக்கவேண்டியவைகள் மற்றும் பரிசோதனைகளை முடித்துக்கொண்டு 'ஸ்கான்' பார்க்க அந்தப்பெண்ணை கூட்டிச்சென்றாள்.
ஆம்..! அவள் சந்தேகப்பட்டது சரியாகிவிட்டது. தொப்புள்கொடி கருப்பையிலிருந்து பிரிந்துவிட்டதால் பிரசவத்துக்கு முன்னான
இரத்தப்போக்கு தொடங்கிவிட்டது.
முதல் வேலையாக மகப்பேற்று வைத்திய நிபுணருக்கு தகவல் அனுப்பிவிட்டு உடனடியாக செய்யவேண்டிய வேலைகளைத் தொடங்கினாள் அனுஷா.
“சேலைன்' ஏற்றத் தொடங்கியாகிவிட்டது... இருதயத்துடிப்பு இரத்த அழுத்தம் கண்காணிக்கப்படத் தொடங்கியது... உடனடியாக இரத்தம் தேவை என்று இரத்த வங்கிக்கு அறிவித்தாகிவிட்டது...
வயிற்றில் இருக்கும் குழந்தையின் நாடித்துடிப்பு அறியும் மானியை பொருத்திவிட்டு அவதானித்த அனுஷாவின்வயிற்றில் இன்னொரு பயப்பந்து.. அப்போதுதான் உள்ளே நுழைந்த வைத்திய நிபுணரை நோக்கி ஓடினாள்
“சேர் பிள்ளையின் 'பல்ஸ்' குறையுது... அம்மாவுக்கும் நிறைய “ப்ளட் போகுது... என்ன செய்யிறது...?"
உடனே “தியேட்டருக்கு எடுங்கோ.. 'சீசர்' தான் செய்ய வேணும்." வைத்திய நிபுணர் உத்தரவிட வெளியே காத்து நின்ற கணவனுக்கு நிலைமையை விளக்கும் பணி அவளுடையதானது.
"ஐயா. வயிற்றுக்குள் இருக்கும் பிள்ளைக்கு இரத்தம் போறது குறையத்தொடங்கியிருக்கிறதால பிள்ளையின்ர நாடித்துடிப்பு குறையுது உடனே “ஒப்பரேசன்” செய்யாவிட்டால் ஆபத்து”.

கணவன் மனைவி இருவரின் சம்மதத்துடன் அவள் சத்திரசிகிச்சை கூடத்துக்கு அழைத்துச்செல்லப்பட்டாள். பூர்வாங்கவேலைகள் நிறை வடைந்தவுடன் சத்திரசிகிச்சை ஆரம்பமானது.
பச்சை உடை... பச்சைத் தலையுறை... பச்சை முகமூடி.. சகிதம் பரபரத்த மருத்துவக்குழுவில் அனுஷாவும் நின்றாள். வைத்திய நிபுணரின் கைகள் வேகமாகச் செயற்பட மற்றவர்கள் தத்தம் கடமைகளைச் செய்ய குழந்தையை எடுத்தாயிற்று. ஆனால் துரதிஷ்டம் குழந்தை உயிரோடு இல்லை.
“பரவாயில்லை... தாயின் உயிரையாவது காப்பாற்ற முடிந்ததே." என்ற நிம்மதிதான் எல்லோருக்கும். சரி இனி இரத்தப்போக்கை நிறுத்திவிட்டு தையல்போடுவதுதான் பாக்கி. அப்போதுதான்
வைத்தியநிபுணரின் கவலைக்குரல் அனுஷாவைத் திரும்பவைத்தது.
"அனுஷா... ப்ளீடிங் நிக்குதில்ல... இன்ஜெக்சன் போட்டுப்பார்ப்போம்." மீண்டும் பரபரப்பு. அனைத்து முயற்சிகளும் செய்தாயிற்று... இரத்தப்போக்கு நிற்கவில்லை. அந்தப்பெண்ணின் நாடித்துடிப்பு இரத்த அமுக்கம் குறையத்தொடங்கியது.

- அந்தப்பெண்ணின் கணவனிடம் சம்மதம் பெற அனுஷா வெளியே சென்றபோது அவன் கதறிவிட்டான். “டொக்டர் எனக்கு வேற ஒண்டும் வேண்டாம். திலகா உயிரோடு கிடைத்தாலே போதும்...”
அதன்பிறகு எல்லாம் சுமுகமாகவே நடந்தேறியது. கருப்பை அகற்றப்பட்டு இரத்தப்போக்கு நிறுத்தப்பட்டது.

சத்திரசிகிச்சை முடிந்தபின் அந்தப்பெண் அதிதீவிர சிகிச்சைப்பிரிவுக்கு அனுப்பப்பட்டாள். அனுஷாவிற்கு வெற்றிப்பெருமிதம் மரணத்தோடு போராடிய ஒரு பெண்ணை மீட்டுவிட்டோம். எமது மருத்துவத்துறையின் இன்னொரு சாதனை... வெற்றிப்படிக்கல்.... அந்தப்பெண்ணின் கணவன் கண்களில் கண்ணீர் வழிய நன்றி சொன்னபோது அந்தப்பெருமிதம் இரட்டிப்பானது.
மாலை நேரம்... அந்தப்பெண்ணை பார்ப்பதற்காக அதிதீவிர சிகிச்சைப் பிரிவினுள் நுழைந்தாள் அனுஷா. இப்பொழுது மயக்கம் தெளிந்திருக்கும் என்று எண்ணியபடி வந்த அனுஷாவைக்கண்டவுடன் "ஏன் என்னை உயிர் பிழைக்க வைத்தனீங்கள்.? என்ர பிள்ளையும் போய்ட்டுது... இனி என்னால இன்னொரு பிள்ளையையும் சுமக்க ஏலாது... எனக்கு ஏன் இந்த சித்திரவதை...? பேசாமல் என்னையும் சாகவிட்டிருக்கலாமே...!" என்ற கதறல் தான் அந்தப் பெண்ணிடமிருந்து பீறிட்டு எழுந்து வந்து அனுஷாவின் செவிப்பறையில் மோதியது.
அந்தக்கணத்தில் அனைத்துப்பெருமிதங்களும் அர்த்தம் இழந்து போக சிலையானாள் அனுஷா.
"அவள் சொல்வது கூட நிஜம் தானா..?” அனுஷாவின் அடிமனதிலிருந்து ஒரு தாய்மையின் குரல் கேள்வி தொடுத்தது.
Medicos Week is an event conducted by medical students annually to enrich their talents in sports and aesthetic events such as drama, short story writing etc. These events help to bring the hidden talents of the students to light.
It paves way for better interaction and understanding between the senior and junior students. The competition also moulds the students to accept winning or losing equally. A journey down the memory lane

The greatest endowment of nature to mankind is the ability to escape into the inner world to find peace and solace whenever the real world realities can no longer be endured with. This in precisely what I am doing now as far as my association with our University is concerned. My connection with the University of Jaffna especially with the Faculty of Medicine began eighteen years ago when my contemparies at school who were then medical students requested me to help them to establish a chess team at the University and to train them in chess. I often compare the students of those gone years with the present ones and very often appalled by the stark realities of the present.
It may be due to the generation gap or due to the sharsh teacher mentality'. Teachers have the habit of lamenting about the degeneration of qualities of their students from time immemorial one stone carving found in the great pyramid of Cheops is a good example for this kind of lamentationof a teacher lived in the days of pharaohs.
Students were eager to develop their personal skills through sports and other extra curricular activities in those days. They

were not book worms huddled with their books all the time and muddled their personalities. I still remember how we have played and studied chess till mid night in candle light, how we have watched philosophical discourses of Jithu Krishnamoorthy with hired generator and how we have organized Drama workshops at the faculty.
I often wonder about, "what went wrong?". The necessary evils of modern life which flooded into the peninsula following the socio-political changes in 2001. might have been the reason. I am not a pessimistic or a conservative who blindly resist anything modern but I sincerely believe that we have to be little cautious about allowing ‘modernity' into our lives. We should not allow modernization to erode the very foundations of our life style of students. Someone might criticize my paternal attitude of condemning the present life style of the students. But I truly believe that if the present day students adopt the ways of those students who were here during the eighties and nineties then we will have better medical graduates with a well rounded personality in future.

என் தமிழை என்னுயிரை ஏற்றி மனம் துள்ளும் - அவள் பெண்ணழகைப் பேரழகைக் கண்டு நெஞ்சம் அள்ளும் பொன்ணிைகள் புட்டியவள் மெல்லிடையைக் கிள்ளும் - ஆசை என்னிடத்தில் தோன்றுதையா கேட்டிருந்து கொள்ளும்!
பொதிகையிலே பிறந்தவளாம் பெண்ணைப்கு பேதை - இவன் மதியினிலே புகுந்ததனால் வந்ததிற்கு போதை சதி புரியும் விழியசைவில் மறந்தது என் பாதை - எந்தன் கதி புரிந்தும் கலங்கவில்லை நவில்கிறேன் ஓர் காதை!
தமிழரென்று சொல்லி எங்கள் தலை நிமிர்ந்து நின்றோம் - எம் மொழியிதென்று சொல்லியன்று திசையனைத்தும் வென்றோம் அமுதமன்ன மொழியதோடு அவனியொகும் சென்றோம் - நம் பெருமை நூறு பேசியொன்கள் பெயர் விலாங்க நின்றோம்
எட்டும் திசையெட்டும் தமிழொலி தட்டும் வான் முட்டும் - படியிடி கொட்டும் ஒளி வெட்டும் தமிழ் மகள் புகழ் பாடும் பொட்டும் பூ மொட்டும் இசை தருமெட்டும் மனம் தட்டும் - சுகமது கிட்டும் அதுமட்டும் மெைமாரு கவி பாடும்.
வெல்லும் பகை கொல்லும் தமிழனின் வில்லும் அவன் மல்லும் - தரை தொடு புல்லும் உலர் கல்லும் தமிழனின் கதை பேசும். நெல்லும் அதைமெல்லும் பொழுதொரு சொல்லும் திசை செல்லும் - தமிழது அல்லும் பகலல்லும் தரணியில் புகழ் மேவும்.

அகதியாகி அலைந்த பின்னும் அடங்குதோலெம் அவலமின்னும் சகதியாகிப் போகுதெர்கள் சாதி - இன்று திகதி நுாறு தீர்ந்த பின்னும் தீரவில்லைத் துன்பம் நெஞ்சில் மிகுதியாகும் ஏக்கம் - இது பாதி!
அகம் இழந்தறுந்து ஆயிரம்பேர் தான் மடிந்து

From just 62 students in the batch, with a dream in mind - to rise and conquer- a 18 member organizing committee was formed
with not much ado, to conduct events for 18 cups.
• Many from other batches believed that we will never be able to conduct such an event.. But we had the determination, the confidence, the energy, the will... which has led us through a successful path to this day!
There was many a storm to pass by and many thorn-beds to walk past. But we stood together and made it happen.
Not only the committee members but all from the batch learnt a great deal by officiating such an event. We learnt to work as a team; time management; to plan and implement events - which
we believe are some of the objectives of the event.
We enjoyed every moment – all the ups and downs- which we will cherish throughout our life time.
