Wimalarajah. Mr. W. Wimalarajah is the retired President Labour Tribunal and is a practising Lawyer in Colombo in the field of Industrial Law. Wimalini has twi brothers elder to her Of Whor the El dist SLI bendra is a | äw graduate and a Attorney at Law, presently a lega | practioner as a Barrister ad Solicitor in Australia. The other twin brother Buwendra is a Mercantile Executive in STi Lanka. Younger brother Pathma Rajeendra is an Auto Mobile Engineer. Vimalini was educated at Methodist College and on completion of her advanced level, she commenced her LLB course of studies at the ) [] Er University, Colombo, She left the Island in 1990 due to her marriage to Nandakumaran, a Chartered Accountant who was based in Zambia, Nandaku maran presently attached to Kriston International, Jeddah Saudi Arabia was formerly General Manager, Walker & Greig Ltd., Colombo and Pharmanowa (Zambia) Ltd., Ndola, Zambia respectively, On arrival to Zambia in 1990, Wimalini joined as a teacher of Little 19

In 1994, due to the change in employment of her husband she joined Tender Care school, Ndola. During her stay in Ndola she joined Women's Institute and rose to the position of secretary. She also completed her London Montossori Teaching Course with a "Merit" pass in 1995. In 1996, when she returned to her native country she joined Gate Way international school as a year three class teacher. While in Sri Lanka she got admitted to University of London to pursue a career in Law and she was following a course of studies in Child Day Care Management ICS-USA. Vimalini and Nandakumaran were religious minded and they carefully observed Hindu Religious fasts. They were regularly reciting devotional songs in the Shrine Room in their residence. Vimalini is the eldest of the 3 daughter in Laws of Mr. & Mrs. A Pakkianathan, Mr.A. Pakkianathan is the retired Superintendent of Audit and thereafter Director/General Manager, Cinemas and KG Group of Companies and General Manager, Institute of Public Finance and Development Accountants. In September 1998, Vimalini resigned her employment as a Teacher at Gate Way International, Colombo and commenced fertility treatment in G.G. Hospital, Madras. In September 1999, she conceived and was residing in Madras with her mother to ensure safe delivery of her twin children. On the 9th July she underwent an Emergency Ceaser resulting in a still born boy and a baby girl. The baby girl is named "Nantheka" and she is being nursed by her grand-mother. The news of Vimalini's death came as a shock to every member of the Gateway family whether it be a member of the directorate, teacher, student or the support staff. They couldn't but openly express their grief for the loss of a dear departed member of our family. Vimalini's genial personality will always be spoken of in the Gateway's family circles. She always displayed an intrinsic loyalty to the Institution. She left an indelible mark in our lives. She was "concern" personified to everyone round her. With her colleagues she established lasting friendships. Vimalini was a very good and sincere friend. She was a very understanding and caring girl who shared the joys and sorrows of others. She was so loving and even possessive of her students. She was proud of their doings and achievements. On our visits to the Primary Department, She literally forced the directorate to her classroom and showed us the work of her children with pride. There was always a finesse in everything she did. This was clearly seen not only in her work in the classroom but also in the Saraswathie Pooja and the drama She organised almost single-handed. To me and my wife she was a daughter, and to my son and his wife she was a sister. When we visited her and her husband, Nandakumaran in their home before she left Sri Lanka, she was sobbing as if she was to leave her own dear parents. Such was her attachment to us. We cannot reconcile ourselves to her loss. To her dear husband who was so attached to Vimalini, I could only say that the Gateway family will always be with him and Vimalini's baby daughter. I pray and hope that Gateway Could be of assistance to the little daughter's education one day. Saddened and grieved, I was in a quandary. Tears welled my eyes. Vimalini was well known to me from her childhood. She was intelligent, industrious and charming. She had a deep commitment towards work. Her father a man of exceptional sincerity and depth of vision was the proudest and happiest man. He was always speaking to me about the good qualities and meritorious contributions of his only daughter Vimalini. He is now depressed and frustrated as the void created by the loss of his only daughter is unfilable. Her husband Nandakumaran is a perfect gentleman with a glittering array of achievements. I was an attesting witness at their wedding and the Dowry Deed too was attested by me a decade ago. Nandakumaran and Vimalini were a lovely couple who lived a very happy life. Death Comes to all but when it comes to one who is young as in the case of Vimalini 33 years of age - the parting is indeed sad and painfully sorrowful. Vimalini is no more but her little lovely daughter Nantheka will definitely be a source of happiness and satisfaction to Nandakumaran and Vimalini's parents and brothers. Page 15 A GLITTERWIG APPLEARAWICE was choked to grief when thamby Vimalarajah, told me over the phone that Vimalini, his daughter had passed away having delivered a boy (still born) and a girl. I cried loudly and my eyes were filled fully with tears, was shocked as Vimalini was a nice young active and healthy girl. Vimalini was a very intelligent energetic and talented girl. She got married to Nandakumaran, a pleasant boy with Superfine qualities. She was a shining star in several fields of life. It is sickening and sad to note that God has been cruel and unkind to snatch her away from her husband, child, loving parents and brothers. I miss her a lot. Whenever she saw me at weddings in Colombo she came running to my side with her husband asking me "How are you uncle? Can help you?". Her bright face and glittering appearance are inscribed in my memory. Her cremation in Chennai had taken place on my birthday. When think of Vimalini's child "Nantheka" my memory goes back to my life in the 1920s. My mother too died immediately after was born. I have not seen even the photo of my mother as no photo was available. When became Member of Parliament in 1960s, came to know that there was a group photo at Uduppiddy American Mission School where my mother was there. In my anxiety to get a copy went to the school but was disappointed as no one was able to identify my mother. still do not know what my mother is like. Vimalini's child can look at the plenty of nice photographs of Vimalini. This child will also be brought up by the maternal grandparents as in my case. The void created by the passing away of Vimalinican never be filled. pray to God that she attains Moksha. extend my deepest sympathies to her husband and to her parents and brothers who loved her so much and treated her as a pet. Sivasithamparam) 26 A GIFL MVIT AN ENVIDEARVG SMILE Vimalini was snatched from A vibrant life when she and the family were on the threshold of a happy family reunion convoked to celebrate the "new arrivals" into the family by the blessings of the Almighty. Yes, in the midst of life there is death, in the midst of happiness there is sorrow Such are the vagaries of life to which the human beings are subjected to much to their dismay. Why me? Why has this befallen us? We have to undergo tribulations, trials, disappointments and go through the fire as these events and experiences bring us closer to the Omnipotent God and make us realise, the brevity of life and the emptiness of Riches, Power, Prestige - our own pians and desires. The Psalmist says "man is a mere phantom as he goes to and fro". Vimalini was possessed with an attractive personality, endearing Smile, love and compassion. She had the yearning to help someone either by word or deed; she was brought up and nurtured in a family of love, fresh and fragrant. She did not choose her parents, nor her brothers, neither did they choose her. It was a divine plan. She found her life's partner - an educated, handsome and a loving husband and together they cherished each other, lived away from our shores, came back, was in close proximity to the parent's abode and during the last weeks and days she was comforted and looked after by her beloved mother and loving husband. Page 16 !eaving our terrestrial orbit presented the family with a very precious gift to remember her and to spread her fragrance all round -"a sweet little infant daughter". We feel the depth of sorrow, sadness and anguish in the hearts of her families trauma the family is presently undegroing by the enexpected void created by the sudden demise of their only daughter, the cynosure of their eyes. Man is a Triune, body mind and spirity. Though Vimalini's body is now reduced to ashes and dust and sprinkled with the environment, her SPIRIT lives on. She has gone ahead of us into Eternity. On the Day of Resurrection what a glorious and happy reunion it will be when husband and wife, parents and children, brothers and sisters meet in jubilation Till then, Vimalini, sweet bye and bye. The Psalmist adds: "Show me, O Lord, my life's end and the number of my days. Let me know how fleeting is my life. You have made my days a mere handbreadth. The Span of my years is as nothing before you. Each man's life is but a breath". Uncle Walter SHE GREW UP IW A CONWSERVATH WE IFA MLY The first message we received was that Vimalini had given birth in Madras, India to twins like her mother before but unlike her mother when Vimalini gave birth to two babies of the opposite SeX. The next message several days after brought the shocking sad news that Vimalini died of child birth. Vimalini grew up in a traditional conservative Hindu family, she well understood the strains of her family. She loved her parents and the brothers immensly. From them she asked very little and she gave back in plenty - her love and affection. Whilst doing whatever that has to be done for the family she did not lose sight of her own vocation as a teenage student. She ventured for knowledge of good things-good education good relationships with all she came across and humane love for the marginalised sector of society. She loved her stint at teaching by rekindling in her own mind her grandfather's desire to sow the good seeds of education on her younger generation. But before she could accomplish her own goals she bowed to the wishes of her parents by marrying that young handsome, very kind hearted ever sacrificing and intelligent accountant, Nandakumaran whom she adored as her living God. Though married for several years they had no children, so I believe they took up the challenge in life and Vimalini with a greater degree of courage to have their own child she succeeded at the cost of her own life. Nandakumaran stood by her during that journey One in mind and one in heart. May the baby girl Nantheka, grandparents and all relations be abundently blessed for the sake of Vimalini and humanity. Its so hard to digest the painful fact that she's gone for-ever. Memories of her are still fresh about those lovely days spent in Zambia. The gap is irreplaceable. Vimalini was a loving, caring, a very hardworking, persevering and an enthusiastic perSon always looking forward to developing her skills. During her short stay in Zambia she touched the hearts of her friends through her artistic and creative talents. She had expressed all these in the lovely birthday cakes she made for children and in the exhibits for the exhibition sponsored by the Women's Institute of Zambia. As everybody knows she always had a craving for small children which she had expressed in so many ways. Her love for a baby was so fulfilled by the mercy of the Almighty and she was not alive to give her the best and what she wanted. We pray that the Almighty gives strength and courage to Nandakumaran and Vimalini's family to go through this difficult period and bring up the baby her treasure, the God's gift, to the best of their ability and to the expectation of Vimalini. Page 18 VIMALIVI 1 AS AWACTIVE MEMBER OF MWOMEN'S INSTITUTE NDOLA, ZAMBIA. We learnt with shock the sudden and untimely death of Vimalini Nandakumaran. Vimalini Joined the Ndola Women's Institute in March 1993. She very quickly became a very active member. She was very much interested in all aspects of our activities and helped with making items for the residents at Mitanda "Home for the aged" in Ndola. She participated in the Women's Institute Arts & Crafts exhibition and the Northern Produce Shows. Vimalini was the Secretary of the Institute during 1994, which shows how involved she was, as everyone knows the Secretary of any organisatin is often the busiest. She was missed when she left in 1996 as although she was a member for only two years, she had made a significant mark in the Institute. May her soul rest in Peace.
