Joined Auxiliary Fire Service as Section Fire Officer. Posted to Trincomalee after training Promoted Company Fire Officer and put in charge of Moor Street Fire Station, the largest Fire Station in Ceylon. Made Staff Officer in Charge of Administration. Took over as Principal of Colombo Hindu College, Ratmalana. They had only 12% passes in English at the December 1970GCE O/L examination. Had common test in English for the whole school, regrouped the classes for English with classes for English at the same period on the Time Table, put the best teachers to the weakest. By the end of 1973, the results had gone up to 75% passes with mostly credits and several distinctions.
Transferred to Kandy as Chief Education Officer.
Transferred to the English Unit of the Ministry of Education.
Retired from the Education Service.
Tutor in English to students of the Law Faculty of the Colombo University.

Holocaust of July 1983. Giri bludgeoned to death in the foyer of the Kalubowila Hospital where he had gone to bring his mother back after a dental check-up. Whole family went into a refugee camp and were brought to Trinco by ship on 08 August.
Began work as Chairman, Trincomalee Citizens Dommittee monitoring human right abuses in Trincomalee District and as Chairman of the Refugee Relief & Rehabilitation Committee.
Second son, Gangadharan, shot through the heart while he was waiting for a bus at the gate of his house in Nilaveli to get to town where he was working at the UC Library.

daughter is due to start her degree with German, English and French. Eldest granddaughter is the Manager of an Employment Agency in Surrey. Second granddaughter is married to a German who is an authority on International Law and has published reports and the humari right situation in Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia and Morocco. He is now writing a report on the impact of the UN Sanctions on Iraq. Third granddaughter is started her A/L. The eldest of his surving sons, Haridharan is with English wife, and son and daughter near his place another son, Mayur, lives with him and works for a courier firm. Youngest son, Dhushi, is married to an English Girl, Louise, who is an accountant in charge of a firm of accountants. Mogan is in Cologne married a German girl. Both of them work at the Ministry of Finance in Cologne.
